My next car has keyless entry, no choice in the matter really as it comes with an option pack. Question is, would it be better to keep the spare in a farady pouch or just take the battery out?

Every car I've had with it, I've turned it off in the car. There are however keyless ways to steal a car through the canbus now.

Well if they want a car they'll take it, but the question is what's the best way to store the spare key, which quite possibly won't be getting used.

chuck it in a drawer and forget about it? Been that way for years..... If someone wants the car, they will get it. Don't over think it.

I keep mine in a little aluminium (I think it is lol) biscuit tin, works the same I think...

If the spare key is left at the house while the car is away, why would it need to be stored "safely".

When the car is home store it in the same way as the main key.

Because we keep the keys seperate, one is stored away upstairs in a drawer and the other one constantly used. I don't remember ever actiually having to use the spare with any car.
I'll just get a cheap faraday pouch for it.

faraday here local police station when open gave us ours free just had to pop in something with crime stoppers i think. bright red lol .
you see the same ones advertised on the bay.
works as i often forget and find i cant open the car without taking the handset out:))).

and eventually i will get out of the habit of locking the car on the car park and immediatly checking the door is locked , which of course it isnt cause i just unlocked it lol.

If it's a spare key and it's home when the car isn't why does it need to be kept in a faraday pouch?
Can the code from the key be copied and stored, ready to be used when the car is back?

There's lots of very easy ways to steal cars nowadays, don't bother yourself with taking batteries out of it or hiding it anywhere, you're just inconveniencing yourself. A lot of cars don't even need the key to be stolen now anyway.

With how easy cars are to steal now you may as well leaving it hanging on your front door for all the difference it'll make

As I understand it, faraday cages do not block outbound signals, only inbound, unless they're grounded.
Strictly speaking I don't think they are faraday pouches, rather just RFID blocking pouches. The term Faraday has just been borrowed as a generic term for something that blocks signals.

Presumably when it's at home then the main key is also in a Faraday pouch, the whole point being to block any signals when the car is parked in a known location to prevent signal repeating attacks.
