Possibly also Injustice Gods Among Us. Made by the people who make MK IIRC, I don't remember it being gory, there is some blood. The story does have superman burn a hole in shazams head though - so maybe avoid that! And he kills joker.

Edit: Just saw that your son is 7, so probably not. But if he likes any of the DC heroes then it'd be one to remember in the future.

This game was just announced for PC/Consoles and it seems to be very similar to the classic TMNT arcade games

No release date yet but the game supports up to 4 players simultaneously so might be real fun.
Streets of Rage 4 also gets my vote since its a good retro style fighting game.

That looks very promising. Don't have a switch but I do have an emulator that I would absolutely never use for this type of thing.
