it was proved to be a gimmick on anandtech.com

your network isn't responsible for any lag, its mainly ISP side AFAIK

It does actually work better than if you're using onboard ethernet. But only maybe £20 worth of performance. What with the ever expanding and slowing (latency) broadband market, most of us suffer from rubbish pings nowdays compared to a few years ago.

You can get server class nics that would offer the same kind of benefits for much less, something like an Intel Pro 1000 server adapter for example.
