KillerNIC M1 Gigabit Desktop PCI Network Adapter

if i remember right this has been discused before and the end result is everyone saying its pointless and overpriced.
 
If you really don't want to use a chipset NIC then dig out an old 3Com 905TX or similar - only 100mbit but on the right network, you dont really need more.

If you must have a dedicated Gigabit NIC, then buy an Intel Server adaptor, they are cheaper than the card in the OP and far more worthy of the price tag (if any NIC is).

If youve got cash and got nothing else to upgrade then I guess it might be worth it but otherwise theres always something else to upgrade which will yield better results for your money.
 
These guys are being a little harsh, it does actually have the potential to increase fps slightly, and reduce latency, especially for data heavy/reliant games like MMOs, as well as torrenting whilst gaming without any of the traditional ping worsening, due to the way it works, and in effect being a mini linux pc on its own. However the effects are varying, and I'd only ever consider putting one in a super machine if there was nothing else really worth upgrading.

The thing isnt completely pointless, its just very expensive for the benefits it does have, a viewpoint which comes across in all the reviews you can find of it - can be beneficial, has some advantages, but has a high price tag to go with it.

No I never said it does, as I said, I'd only move to one if there was nothing else to upgrade. However, heavy MMOers in higher latency areas might find them interesting as thats where the largest benefits are meant to be seen.
 
quick question on this then guys, currently i am using the onboard lan of my A8N32-Sli, but for what ever reason seem to suffer with relatively high pings in games. Now to confuse things more i connect to my router using Powerline ethernet (devolo 85mb/s) http://www.devolo.com/co_EN_cs/produkte/dlan/mldlanhsstarterkit-66.html
will i benefit from upgrading that to the Netgear HDXB101 powerline stuff with a standalone Intel PRO/1000 PT? (was thinking about the Killer Nic, relevance link there) The reason I am using the powerline was because at the time there was no 64bit drivers for many wireless dongles, plus it was very unstable when using wireless on xp, 115ms to the router!! At the moment it is 2ms which I can live with, what i cannot live with is the random locking up of the etherline (my hybrid word for ethernet/powerline) connection... my wireless works still but my main gaming rig seems to drop all connection with the router... Is it worth paying out the wonga to get the netgear stuff and standalone NIC?
