On the back of a Facebook campaign to keep yet another Simon Cowell product off the top-spot this Christmas, Rage Against The Machine have got the Xmas #1!

'Killing In The Name Of' was the first single released from the eponymously titled debut album back in 1992. Having been a fan since the initial release, and having seen them live on their first tour, i was surprised to hear this track on the radio a few nights ago. Now, having read about the campaign and it's success i realise why it was being played!

BTW, for those that know this tune, you'll understand why it was a 'radio edit' that used to be played whenever the song was broadcast. I was working late one evening listening to the Radio 1 rock show, when the dj played this song. The WHOLE of the song mind you, not just the family friendly radio version. "**** you i won't do what you tell me..." over and over.

It was in the paper the next day :D

Anyway, glad to see a great tune topping the charts again. Reminds me of when Iron Maiden pulled it off in the early nineties. ('Bring your Daughter...' iirc). Correct me if i'm wrong.

It's really winding me up that people keep referring to it as "Killing in the Name Of".

It's "Killing In The Name".

I don't think there is a face palm big enough for this thread.

Congrats on the biggest and worst pearoast of all time!

Really?

Weird. You'd expect there to have been some discussion on here about it if it made the papers.

This was back in '92.

Anyway, today was the first i'd heard anything about this. Hardly surprising as i don't listen to the radio, read tabloids or watch pop culture television. Don't get me started on 'social networking' either.

More than ever i'm glad i'm not one of the 'cool kids'.
