Killzone 2 Demo - First impressions

Pretty good demo. Graphics are amazing as suspected, but i thought it could have done with some form of aim assist. I was finding it quite difficult at times to aim properly, lowering sensitivity made it too slow, increasing it made it faster but more inaccurate. Very short, so i can't say much. But i was really impressed with the visuals and sound. Looked unbelievable at times on my PX80.

Best looking game on a console = Most probably yes.
Best gameplay on a console = Hmm no. but again its only a demo.

Played through it a few times and while it's short, it was very fun, and not so short you don't get into the game, and not long enough that you'll be bored when playing the full thing. Very Impressed. :)

I'll admit my first play-through, the aiming controls felt unresponsive but after my second time it felt just right, I can't stand how twitchy R1 and 2 are, and the way it responds does feel like you're trying to turn in full body armour holding a large gun!

Brilliant, can't wait for the 27th ;)

I cannot see what the hell that muppet from gamespot was going on about when he claimed the game had input delay. Yeah, aimings harder due to almost a complete lack of aim assist. Sounds to me like the guy just doesn't accept his 'leet skillz' are affected due to a lack of auto aim so blames it on a false flaw.

not that i want to drag the game down but imo there is noticeable delay when aiming... im pretty sensitive to this sort of stuff and spent ages sorting out my tv to avoid these problems as i play beat em ups which get destroyed by input lag.

there is a delay when you look around.. compare it to mgs which i feel is really responsive and there is quite a difference. just simply flicking the controls from left to right made me notice it.

edit - ok just been going back into again and testing it... i dont know if its input lag or just the way they made it reallly slow going from point a to b while looking but either way its doesnt feel that responsive to me. its really noticeable when you have zoomed in and you fine tune your aim.

alos the bug that ive spotted is you cant change any of your controls/settings once you started a game (probably just a demo fault)

Interesting, I did say this a few pages back, this is what Sam Bishop said in his review also.

28% :(

I felt the same at first but on consectutive plays I realised it does begin to move with no delay on the push of the analogue stick, but it starts very slow and accelerates up to full movement speed. Almost as though it has to go through every degree of speed from the sticks position rather than just jumping to the extremeties of turn speed.

Input delay REALLY winds me up, but I don't think there's necessarily input delay there, just an intended acceleration to mimmic weight.

yea i think you are right mate, just went back into testing it again... its definitely intentional whatever they did to it (they should take it out!) because other stuff such as firing is instant

I honestly believe it isn't delay. There is a sudden jump between slow movement and fast movement at certain points on the joystick, but if i nudge the joystick it still moves, albeit by not much. I've figured the trick is to use the first 1/2 of the joysticks movement for aiming and the last half for quick turning, after my third play through i was beginning to get use to it and it actually works quite well. Allows for accurate aiming and quick turning.

I think the biggest contributing factor is a complete lack of auto-aim. I mean, whens the last time a console FPS didn't have any?

Does killzone 2 feel like a console shooter or a pc a shooter?

The looks of it to me make it feel like a PC shooter, the attention to detail and the wow factor also.

It's hard to say though because the checkpointiness of it feels like a console shooter but the demo isn't long enough to really decide from that alone.

it feels like an excellent shooter regardless ;)
