Killzone 2 Demo - First impressions

Like in aiming? throwing grenades? I could see that being kinda cool or really annoying. I guess thats why there is so much dirt in the air, to show which way the wind is blowing? Could be interesting.

Well I've just found these quotes,

Throw a grenade and the wind can blow it back to you. It influence your walking/running speed as well. Depending on wich way the wind blows ofcourse. In short, wind affects combat.

The wind physics in the game - can alter grenade trajectories and slow your movement.

I don't think it effects your aiming though.

Tbh, if it affects bullets that'll be awesome. Only game i've ever played that did that was Operation Flashpoint and it really made you think about wind direction etc when sniping. Obviously the affects were barely noticeable at medium to short range so standard rifles were unaffected, it just made life harder for those pesky snipers.

[EDIT] Meh, just read lowriders post, at least it'll add something extra to think about.

I totally remember the first time I tried sniping in flashpoint. I was took back by the wind element in that game. I just loved getting to a high hill point of picking off soldiers from a distance. No other game has made sniping so much fun. :D

I hope the killzone 2 demo is a good 15-20 minutes and not just a 2 minute tease. Like the heavenly sword demo.

It'll be short i bet, it's rumoured to be the demo that was shown at the play expo last year which lasted less than 5 mins apparently.

That's a good thing, no?

About time someone had the balls to make something harder, unlike Call of Duty 4 which practically aims for you.

Couldn't agree more, the lack of auto aim will also enhance the difference in skill level which, as games such as UT, TFC and CS have proven, encourages a longer lifespan for the multiplayer and competitive play.

What's wrong with keeping this in the official thread?

The game does have auto-aim, it's just not as farcial or hand-holding as other games in the genre.

Typical, was gonna give this a bash tonight when the missus is at college, and thanks to the snow her college is shut.

Not really expecting a lot from this,

I have read a few reviews that say it is a very good shooter but doesnt really offer anything special and isn't really the ray of hope that Sony expect it to be,

I will download the demo today and probably will buy it on release day

I can understand why guys see the minimal aim assist as a good thing as no doubt you are quite competent gamers but I'm not really that 'great' @ aiming with a pad, I'm not putting console pad's down or anything, I've used a pad since they first ever came out, it's just I'm never really been that good with them unless they have a fair amount of aim assist, anyway, I suppose the worst it can do is improve my aiming slightly.

A lot of games don't really offer anything new to their genre, look at Gears of War 2, a game doesn't need to be 'special' to be good though, a lot of people seem to use a games lack of innovation as a bad thing, but really if the game is solid who cares?

I'm not that good at aiming with the PS3 pad either as I barely ever play FPS on it. :D But will get better in time no doubt.

Indeed, sometimes it is good to just do what has been done before very well.

It's getting incredibly hard to make an original FPS in what is possibly the most oversaturated genre around, so why not just stick to the script and make it as polished as possible? That's pretty much what's happened with Killzone 2. They've taken cues from the best single player and multi player games (there is a mahoosive TF2 influence in there that I'm sure many will appreciate), and that's all we can ask of Guerilla to be honest.

I've been reading on other forums that the demo is coming out at 5pm instead of 3pm. No idea what to make of any of this. I guess it'll be up when its up.
