Killzone 2 Demo - First impressions

Does it really have no aim assistance? Found it far too easy to shoot them, even when they are behind cover...

Alternative 2 + 2 clicks up for x/y axis and its a lot better.

has anyone got hold of the saitek 2700 or 3500 joypads yet .
they seem like a nice alternative to the ds3 . especially when you can swap the d-pad with the left stick to make like a 360 pad

Found the controls a bit slugish, put them up in settings and it was so hard to aim. But i guess i will get used to it. Still enjoyed it

I had a problem with the controls at first but I just went into the options and spent a good 5-10 minutes changing them to my liking. Plays fine once you get a hang of the controls.

How did you change the controls? I mean, did you just choose one of the saved preset set of controls or did you actually manually map each individual button?

I wanted to do the latter but had to settled with "Standard 2" when I discovered or thought I couldn't map the controls exactly the way I wanted...

I guess we are just not used to actually aiming with a controller. Auto-aim has spoiled us.

Can't remember what preset I used but it was the one where L1 is used to zoom in. I also made it so zoom in is held down instead of stuck.

Ok, but can you manually select each button (instead of going through 6 presets - none of which are what i want) for a specific command and swap things around?

me and my boy (13yr old) have just tried it, 1st thing he said after he completed it was "this is a more intense COD4" lol. Then he said "and it looks a lot better graphic wise than COD4". Then he said "the AI does something apart from just stand there", this was when he was chasing one of them with a knife and the helghast was moving backwards trying to get away.

Control wise found nothing wrong with any of it on default settings.

The thing is though. I'm not asking for a lot. I just want as close to COD4 control style as possible but I am starting to get used to the "Standard 2" preset so it might grow on me. Seems very strange to have to press R3 for aim though!!

Change it to where L1 is aim. :)

Nah, I'd rather have L2 as aim or just leave it the way it is. I hope that the controls are fully "mappable" come full UK release.

I have L2 as the cover button.

Anyone notice one of the helgast voice actors is from COD4? The guy you hear talking when you enter the warehouse. Sounds just like one of the main characters in cod4.

Tried alt 2 its pretty much cod 4 control

Thanks Robert1986, just reminded me of a point...

Im sure in the main KZ2 thread there was a video discussion regards the changes/polish made since the closed beta and one thing they mentioned was this warehouse scene where they said that in the beta (or perhaps the pre-release code or something since I thought the beta was mp only) when you entered all hell let loose but in the finished code if you were quiet you could hear them all talking.

Now in the demo whatever I do I just get spotted after the first 2 lines of dialogue so to me that potentially means this demo code is relatively old and if its the same as whats discussed in that video comparison then we still should expect further visual polish and stuff (like a lot more light beams strike through the building and the textures are a bit more defined)...

This game already looks good - so much so I found it hard to spot the lack of AA - if its as I hope above then perhaps it might get quite a bit better when we get the final product...

Does that click with anyone else?

Just finished playing the Demo. Love the controls so far, not had a real problem with them. Cover is a little bit strange, but i'm sure it's just because i'm not used to it! Graphics are WOW. My house m8s that came in while I was playing it were stunned, and are now going to buy it :p. Pretty pleased I pre-ordered it overall :)
