Kimi To NASCAR?

To be honest, having watched the first few sprint cup races this year, I have concluded the following.. the accidents are far more fun, lots more bits flying all over the place.. certainly a lot more 'pit' info, which makes understanding what teams are doing far more interesting, and Darrell Waltrip should be slapped with a wet kipper just before the green flag drops..

Got to disagree with you on a couple of counts there.

1) The accidents really aren't all that much fun to watch. It's a bit less 'heart-in-mouth' since the advent of the COT car design, but stuff like the big crash at Martinsville last Sunday (the throttle jammed on the car of Martin Truex who slammed into Kasey Kahne, damaging the SAFER barrier in the process and bringing out the red flag for a while)....I hate seeing that. It's that kind of crash that killed Adam Petty, and Kenny Irwin Jr.

Mind, it's always amusing (it shouldn't be, but it is) when Robby Gordon stacks it....

2) I've never quite 'got' the hate from some people for DW. He's a brilliant commentator. His enthusiasm is wonderful, he has a deep knowledge of the sport....he's done a great deal for both the popularity of NASCAR in the US and worldwide, and he's done a great deal for safety in the sport as well.

Same tracks, same rules, just different vehicles (albeit very similar). There's even a bunch of Cup guys who race in the Truck series regularly (Kyle Busch being one of the main ones).

Is there still the massive complaints about Cup guys running in the Nationwide and Truck series?

The Cup guys still race in Nationwide but the points they get don't count towards the championship. Nationwide needs the Cup guys to race as they bring dollars and sponsorship as well as media coverage to the series.

Or it could be that he will earn way more money then in F1 :)

I read a report recently and apparently Kimi (doing rallying), is one of the highest paid motor sports men on the planet.

Hamilton, Alonso, Rossi and Kimi are the highest earners.

I never realised that rallying was so lucrative.

I was always under the impression that F1 drivers earn disproportionately more than any other form of motor sport (Rossi, excepted).

I don't disagree that he does a lot for the sport, and his commentary is great, just the "boogity boogity boogity lets go racing boys" grates every time I hear it

That article said:
Raikkonen's salary for 2010 was boosted by his pay-off from Ferrari, after the team let him go at the end of 2009

Kimi is supposedly paying $100,000 per race to Kyle Busch Motorsports for the equipment.

Makes sense to get technical help from a team that can do the business week-in, week-out.

So mute the TV/feed/whatever for the green flag ;)

GENTLEMEN START YOUR ENGINES!

BIGGEDY BIGGEDY BIGGEDY LETS GO RACING KIMI STYLE

I think what people don't understand about NASCAR, is that it isn't a sport you sit down and watch the whole way through. You're supposed to get the beers in, the snacks and some mates round and enjoy your Sunday off with some fast racing and big crashes.

I have no friends, so i watch the 10 minute highlights instead.

What on earth are you talking about? :/

At most of the Nascar tracks, the average length of time to make a coffee.. is 10-15 laps.. and a LOT can change during that time.. yes, it is certainly a social spectator sport, but at the same time its not cricket, where you can go away have a meal, come back and nothing has changed.. Nascar is 3-4 hours of constant pressure
