I've heard very little about either of these since their respective releases.

Anybody here got any reviews for them and their launch titles?

Are they as revolutionary as suggested, or just another quickly tiresome fad?

Didn't seem to see too much about Move when it was released, but quite a few people on here have Kinect and seem to be impressed by it thus far.

Reviews i've seen are mixed, from 3/5sih to 4/5ish. Personally, if you calibrate it properly there is negligible lag in Kinect Sports and Adventures, which are the only 2 games I have at this point.

Kinect is a lot more immpresive than i thought it was going to be, the technology works very well. When i tried it in a store it was awfull but in home with proper calibration its miles better. At the moment its used as a fitness tool for my wife. There are no real decent games at the moment but MS have promised early next year there will be some better games released.

So you tried it in a store, thought it was awful, but purchased it anyway? :p

I remember watching some of the vids from E2 2009 and was blown away by Kinect and not that impressed at all by Move, fast forward to E3 2010 and I had lost all interest in Kinect and thought it looked terrible, mainly down to the abundance of cartoony games for the kids, and dance games for the girls/gays ;) and some of the Move games looked more appealing.

In the end I got Move with the expectation being that it is basically the same control system as the Wii, only more responsive and with the benefit of better graphics. It hasn't dissappointed really, it is exactly what I expected, i.e. nothing ground breaking, but some of the games are fun, especially sports champions, tumble and Heavy Rain.

As for Kinect, like many people I had started to read about bad lag and all sorts of other issues, my brother got one on launch day and I went round to see how bad it was, I was very suprised to find that it was actually good. It worked very well and some of the games were fun (Especially the boxing), but there were still issues such as the amount of room it needs, not enough games that I would actually play which mean I've decided not to get kinect for now. If a few more games get released that I would play, plus if I can be bothered to re-arrange my living room to accomodate it, then I might get Kinect.

I get the feeling that both systems are the type of thing that once the novelty wears off, I would only get out when friends and family are round. Neither system beats being able to sit comfortably on the sofa with joypad in hand for a proper gaming session, but if you like social gaming, have family that come round every now and then, want something fun to do over Christmas etc then I think Kinect would be the one to go for, even though I ended up going for Move.

I've heard loads of good stuff about Kinect... but I listen to Major Nelson's podcast, so draw your own conclusions!

They have it instore in Game in the Arndale. I might try it one lunchtime, if I'm not feeling too self conscious.

I bought a Move controller not long following release, mainly to help my daughter play EyePet as the card just didn't cut it. She really gets on well with it now (she's 5) and it improves the game immensely.

I've got a few demos, though I've not played any bar Start the Party, which was good fun and again, my daughter thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll probably pick it up for Christmas for her.

In terms of accuracy, I find it no better than the Wii, without or without Motion Plus. I suspect if I play Sports Champions I'd notice more however. I'm most looking forward to KillZone 3 as I found Metroid and other FPS games on the Wii absolutely brilliant with a pointer and motion controls.

You see this is part of the problem with the kinect

its not going to be bought by non xbox 360 owners as a rival to the wii

its just too damned expensive to buy both at once. Its going to be bought by households that already have an xbox 360, with a dedicated gamer in it, and aim at the casual gamers in that household

But the household only has one xbox, so theres only a limited amount of time those casual gamers are going to be able to spend on it. Limited time = limited desire to buy new stuff for it.

Part of the problem why sales have dropped off on the wii so much is people get excited, bought it, then havent done anything with it since. The danger for kinect is exactly the same will happen to it

Won't matter to MS of course, they've got the core xbox business to fall back on. But it would be a shame as the kinect is a great bit of kit.

I don't know anyone locally with an Xbox that's bought into Kinect, but I know a lot of households with Xbox & Wii with the Wii living in the living room and the Xbox in a bedroom somewhere.

When my wife saw Kinect, she thought it looked odd. She wondered why they weren't holding a remote of some description and thought it was wierd to be standing just flailing your arms and legs about. She is a proper casual gamer too - well into Wii Fit, Guitar Hero etc. I'd have never bought a PS version of Kinect at the cost because it's just not worth it if I own a Wii.

i can see the rrp coming down on these quicker than MS would have liked

They've priced themselves too high above the wii and the Playstation move.

Its a great piece of kit, and Sainsburys are already knocking £30 off it in the run up to christmas, but its got further to fall i feel.

Wishful thinking, if you want a console + motion controls unfortunately it seems to be about the right price, i.e. £250 for a console + kinect.. vs £160 for a Wii, which is £225 if you want Wii Fit (makes it more comparable), and £290 for a PS3 + Move (and that only has 1 wand).. It's all much of a muchness..

If sainsburys are indeed selling the Kinect for £100, that's just their usual discounting scheme I would fear (I got my PS3 + Move this way), if sales are brisk and stocks depleting as predicted in the run up to Christmas, MS just won't lower the price, only if sales are much lower then expected, and they have thousands of units sat on shelves are they going to lower the wholesale prices.. Since we know sales where good in the opening 10 days (1 Million units), that's pretty much indicating they are in a strong position at the moment.. What happens next year is anyone's guess.

impressed with both but having many more laughs with Kinect.

with Move i was expecting it to be Wii, but more precise so that the games controlled better, this is indeed how its turned out. a great piece of kit.

Kinect is just so surprising in how it works and the 5 games i have so far are very good. the bad news is that i've got a groin strain (true) from playing Kinect football:eek:.

For me the main problem with Kinect and the casual games market is the space requirments, it just doesn't fit in tiwht the average UK house which must make it a massive problem in traditional games hotbeds like Japan where space is at even more of a premium.

for example to use Kinect I would have to totaly redo my living room layout which just isn't going to be an option for an occasional gaming experience. My Wii however works fine within the existing space constraints.

Eurogamer slammed it for that reason on their podcast.

I was hugely skeptical over Kinect but after playing a friends it is awesome. It certainly won't be turning hardcore gamers on but for casual, simple controlled games, it is a lot of fun.

Doubt I will buy one as it's only entertaining, to me, to play with mates who just take the mick. A serious game, at this stage, will just fall on its face. PS Move on the other hand is great for more serious games, but not as much fun with the simpler games.

If I had to buy Move or Kinect, I'd probably go for Kinect but even with a fair bit of space in my lounge, I'd still need more to be comfortable swinging my limbs.
