I know I know, there's no place for a pro-Kinect thread here as we're (well you're) all too cool for all that but there's some interesting feedback from a recent UK MS event.

About Dance Central:
It represents everything that makes me wince about Microsoft's Kinect launch line-up. It's garish, child-friendly, audience-friendly, hand-holding, acid-Technicolor, merrymaking nonsense. It's also tediously traditional in premise; an undemanding warm-up for a piece of technology crying out for a knackering, industry-shaking workout.

About Lag:
But - and this is all-important - it's frighteningly accurate and shockingly responsive. And here's the big bombshell: The same can pretty much be said for all of the Kinect debut titles.

Latency:
Remember those leaked videos showing the horrible latency of Kinect Adventure's Rally Ball; Jonathan Ross swiping what seemed like seconds before his on-screen avatar did the same?

Forget them - each and every limb flick or gesture I pull is represented on the TV in front of me with no perceptible delay. Heck, the experience of kicking the rubber spheres in the title even feels cutting edge - if only fleetingly. River Rush is the same - my gangly hopping and leaning instantly affecting the water boarding action.

Kinectimals, Joy Ride, Kinect Sports - all reassuringly reactive and judicious of movement

It works:
But the kit works. Like, really works. It's much more than a shonky Eye-Toy - and fears of lag have been wildly overplayed. Believers in Kinect's long-term potential for providing unconventional, breakthrough experiences finally have something to smile about.

With Rare also confirming that Kinect does indeed work fine whilst sat down (though it does have problems if you're lying down) hopefully we can lay to rest two of it's biggest criticisms.

As I've said many times before I'm not actually that interested in many of the launch titles but I am excited for it as for my wife and daughters it will be amazing and for games to play with them it'll be like nothing else.

For Dance Central alone the ability for my daughter to take over from my wife and it'll automatically switch profiles and recognise that she's younger and make it more forgiving is quite something.

Now all they need to do is get the price right.

Good to hear, really want to buy one just for the media centre controls.

I'll pop to Sainsburys tomorrow and see if these rumours are true about the cheap new 360, if not I'll just till there's a bargain on!

It's not kinect or the restrictions of the hardware that's the issue for me, it's the titles that MS were pimping for it at E3, they ranged from uninteresting to just plain cringeworthy.

But hey, guess that makes me one of the cool kids, how awesome.

i agree, if they want to sell lots of kinect they need to start giving us some real singleplayer or proper indepth multiplayer games, otherwise after the first few months it will die a horrible death due to the lack of serious gaming interest.

would love to try one out myself and see how it goes though :)

Maybe so, but the other halfs baby (Well, 8 years) sisters who we look after were really, really excited over them.
Considering we look after them one hell of a lot, anything to keep them away from me so i can watch football in peace (Even if its upstairs! lol) is a win.
