Kinectless Xbox One announcement today.

I'm sorry, but this just shows more incompetence from the management of the Xbox division. They should just sell the whole thing to some other company who's got a clue about these things.

They really haven't gotten anything right with this Xbox One saga. Its like a poisoned chalice. Even Nintendos management of the Wii U is rating much higher than MS right now.
I don't think it was down to the fact they don't have a clue, it's more the fact they got cocky and arrogant and thought they'd sown the whole console war up with the 360.

Considering how rapidly they've reacted since the initial announcements and the launch of the console, I'm not sure how you can say that. Sure, it was mismanaged at the start but under the current leadership they're responding more quickly than anyone would have expected. Yes, it's been U-turn after U-turn, but better that - for both MS and consumers - than them sticking to their guns because they think they know better than everyone else.

It was just a handy argument for people to use who, in my opinion, had no intention of buying an xbox. Those same people will just now say, I'm not buying an under powered machine, one thing that is never going to change.

Yep, people said the same with the wii u and its price.

I won't be buying an xbox one because most 3rd party games are multiplatform these days and more importantly I'm not paying two subscriptions for online gaming.

From reading GAF, and looking at what he has said, it looks like he wants to get on the good side of gamers again and is using his new position to try to achieve that goal.
Cheers for the reply, I just want people to be mindful that he was around in a senior position for years before his latest appointment, so to consider that as a turning point for XOs fortunes might not be as clear cut as PR want us to believe. I don't think its a bad change, I just want to see more action than words before passing judgement. As is obvious I'm not that impressed with today's announcement.
I don't think there is going to be a redesign, just removing Kinect from the SKU as it doesn't depend on it.
I meant whenever they do a 'Slim' version to reintegrate part of Kinect into the console itself.

Agreed. Whether their initial policies were right or wrong, they've heard consumer feedback and have acted on that. Whether they've done enough is up for debate, but I'll give them credit for at least trying to correct their mistakes.

I guess we know now why MS found those ET games in the landfill, dig them up and make room for Kinect units.

E3 will be the real test, have to see what he delivers. I know he was around before hand, but I put a little faith in what he has come out and said since, and that meaning he may well have not been totally on board with what they were doing with the console during the conception phase and future development, but was unable to sway Mattrick et al from their vision of what they wanted to push on consumers.

£299.99 with Titanfall and they'll claw back big numbers. It's this kind of deal that'll get current 360 users to come across in bulk while gathering a few ps4 users through intrigue.

They need to get more out there in houses before normal people start to realise that games not coming out at 1080p 60fps is a big thing.

It needs to be priced at £300 Imo. I can't see the masses paying the £350 for a console that isn't as powerful as it's rival. Well, unless they start getting some good exclusives out ;)

This really is nail in the coffin for Kinect. The whole point of this in Xbox One is that with it included in the box, every Dev could assume everyone had it so they could build Kinect functionality into any game. Just makes it a waste of time, which to be fair, is what the public thought all along.

The fact of the matter is now developers can't guarantee that all Xbox Ones will have Kinects, not that many games used it properly.

Its not going to be worth the extra effort for a small percentage of Kinect users for first party.

I may sound harsh to MS, but the whole affair regarding the Xbox One handling is instilling me with zero confidence with their product.

Meh, I don't get Kinect bashers.

Most of my activity on the XO uses Kinect currently, it's a great alternative to the stuff I play on PS4.

Me neither, I love the Kinect. I think this is a backward step. It means that developing stuff for the Kinect will now be put on the backburner. It's sad news for me because I was really looking forward to some good games/apps coming out for the Kinect.

agree, stupid move. just removed the only thing that made xbox one different.

should just dropped the price to £350/300 and keep the kinect, take the hit for the first year, not going to to hurt Microsoft that much anyway.

I think it next years E3 that will be all about Phil - this years will still have Mattricks influence - hard not to considering the lead time for game development.

With regards to him not having a persuasive voice within Xbox it's all to be guesswork, my opinion comes from things like if Respawn can get MS to fix a controller issue, how couldn't the Head of MGS influence the XO R&D - just doesn't make sense to me that he wasnt involved significantly.

EDIT: Just thought that when each XO becomes a dev kit MS will regret decoupling Kinect as that's where the innovation to use Kinect for games would have been.

Still haven't bought an xbox ONE, still haven't bought a PS4 either. Still waiting until something which really blows my socks off, comes out and takes my interest! :)

Same here. All the mutli-plats im interested in are on PC too. Probably cheaper to buy and play better.
