King size bed. Worth upgrading?

Evening all

I've currently got a double bed, but I find it hard to get a good nights sleep when the gf is round for the night. I find my bed is too small and I cannot move round as much as I would like. This leads to me waking myself in the night bumping into her and the wall

Now I'm very tempted to upgrade to a king size bed which is 150cm wide compared to my double which is 135cm

These are standard sizes, however its only a 15cm increase for a rather large spend

Is it worth it do you think. To go up to a super king size it becomes big money due to you needing the bed, mattress and bedding, much more so than the cost of king size items. I can't afford super king size so easy, I would have to save. I would also lose a large portion of my bedroom.

What do people think, is a king size enough for a peaceful nights sleep or should I bite the bullet and save for a super king?

kingsize *** had one since me and mrs Sormicoft started cohabitating, best investment ever :) plenty of room even for 3 or 4

a simple answer is yes ut is worth it. I was exactly the same as you, doubles aren't big enough and super is too expensive and too big for my room. kingsize was a good compromised and although on paper it doesn't seem that much bigger than a double, it is noticeable.

could do with that 3 or 4 women in my kingsize bed tbh

kingsize are good you can cuddle and be close and when its hot you have enough room to be cool

Pffft too small? I sleep in a smaller than single bed with my boyfriend when i stay at his uni flat. :p
How about taking your girlfriend to a bed shop and having a lie down on each size of mattress and then make your choice?

you have your measurements a tad wrong

A double is 53 inches ~ 135cm
A queen is 60 inches - 150cm
A king size is 76 inches ~ 190cm (basically the size of two singles)

Ah see thats another point. I feel the heat very easily and prefer to sleep in the cool while she always feels cold and prefers the heat.
End result is we enjoy a cuddle in bed and she goes to sleep nice and warm, but when I want to move away to find that elusive cool spot its not to be found and I find it hard to sleep

King size sounds like the way forward for sure!

Maybe if you live in America Jimmi!
The names are different, but otherwise the sizes are the same

We went all silly and got a SUPER king size... its enourmous!

Going on holiday and staying in a king size now feels weird and tiny. :p

Only bad point is getting new bed linen, its expensive for super king size.

I stepped up from a double to a King size a while back. It's great for lying in, watching movies and bedroom gymnastics but doesn't make any difference to sleeping as the wife always ends up encroaching on my half by edging closer and closer to me until I'm perched lying sideways at the edge, resulting in 70% of the bed never getting used when we sleep.

I've got a king size in my flat, and it's perfect. Both of our parents have double beds in their spare rooms, and I really notice the difference when we stay there - I can't sprawl out at all! I'd definately recommend the upgrade, it seems like a small amount, but it makes a big difference ;).

Yep, same here :D

Best £1000 odd pounds I've spent.

My gf isn't fat so we can both fit on a double no problem...

get her beside the wall...you'll feel a lot more 'open'...

*n

No matter how big the bed is, the same problem remains. Men get too hot, women are too cold.

Thus the mrs moves closer and closer to me and I move closer to the side of the bed and eventually I'm on the edge with no option but to stealthily climb over her and start the process all over again. Or at least I would if I could be bothered, I just stay hot.

King size is also handy if you happen to be 6' 4" like me as doubles and singles are only 6' 3" whereas king size is 6' 6" long. And yes they are worth it, once you’ve slept as a couple in King size doubles do seem cramped.
