February 13th 2018: The game launched!

A tip from TheSwede:

If someone want a bit wider FOV, use the console and type: CL_FOV 90 .. Or what ever number you want.

A modguide to remove the need for savior schnapps for drinking (use at your own risk, and at the risk of losing some gameplay tension!):

And of course I mistype the thread title. Could some nice moderator please change "Kingdome" into "Kingdom" in the title ? Thank you :)

Was impressed with how they were talking about RPG and character customisation, then on further reading I find you have to play as a set character with set features, and can't play as a female. I just hope the PC isn't voiced with paraphrasing, then I'll be out

Did you also not play Witcher because it only has guy playable and paraphrased dialogue?

Kingdom Come will have playable female character btw, although it will be a set character for some specific quests.

That is not the point. Why highlight the rpg elements of the game when it doesn't even do the basics. It is advertised as an rpg, so I expected, reasonably you must admit, to be able to role play in it. Don't I have the right to be disappointed when I find out that actually I have to play as a set character? I'm not knocking the game at all, just saying I'm disappointed in it.

Paraphrasing is a cancer in modern so-called RPGs, and I will be very disappointed in every single game that features it!.. There is no reason for it, it is completely counter productive and makes no sense in an rpg.

... And can I take your post to indicate that it does feature voice acting and paraphrasing?

This is a very storydriven RPG. Devs want to tell strong story. That goes better with set protagonist rather than mute blank slate. Game can have set protagonist while also allowing for a lot of freedom and RPG stuff (Torment comes to mind). Personally I much prefer interesting set protagonist (like Geralt) over generic one (like Dragonborn).

Not sure about the paraphrased dialogue, although I also do not mind them, IF they are done well and convey the meanings properly. I don't remember if they were written in full or not in the beta.

also, could someone please fix that thread title ?

Thank you very much :)

Instead of choosing what your character says, you choose a phrase and he says something different. Like Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 do.

I don't understand the point of it anyway, but in a game where you are 'supposed' to be role-playing as a character it is a baffling thing!

If you want the game to have cinematic presentation, it can make sense. Witcher 3 used it well, so did Alpha Protocol. When I chose my response, I usually knew what I was going to say.
Fallout 4 used it horribly, because Bethesda writers can't write, but that's not the fault of the system :)

I like how it was done in Deus Ex 3, where you had replies shortened but could click on them to see the full sentence.

How do you find the dialogues? From what i've seen and i know its still only in beta but its horribly messy, lipsynching and weird stilted animations. On the one hand the graphics look very impressive in static screen but when i see them in videos....hrmm.

Everything connected to dialogue is terrible because it is placeholder. The heads, animations, voiceacting..all is placeholder.

Backed from the start but not actually tried it yet (not enough time). Its looking good though

Wonder if there would be a VR version.....

As far as I know they said they would like to support VR, but given the gameplay mechanics (combat, horse riding) it would be extremely demanding to do properly so it is not a priority.
Cryengine supports VR though, so there might be some rudimentary "at your own risk" support there on release.

Is the voice acting still truly awful?

Apart from that the world they're building looks terrific.

All voice acting in the betas is place holder. Voice acting is one of the last things put into the game, so it is early to judge anything about it.

Gives me the same feeling that Oblivion did back in the day! Even the font reminds me of it.

Shame about the controller keys.....

Controllers are much easier for demoing at trade shows like gamescom. The game will obviously support mouse and keyboard as well as controllers.

I love the facial animations and overall world detail, sometimes it almost looks real! A mindblowing amount of effort must have gone into this, and I can only expect that my video card will be brought to its knees.

Bit surprised this hasn't generated more interest from a greater number of people on here.

Yeah it looks amazing, even the unpolished beta did. I am not really that worried about GPU perf, I think the real killer will be CPU. They have around 1000 NPCs constantly being busy in the world, and the behavior tree-based AI is something no other games have tried yet at this scope. It will hammer CPUs hard. I really hope they manage to somehow optimize it.

And yeah I am surprised at the not great interest, considering open world RPG is the best genre and this is the first real historical storydriven RPG ever made.

Same, I backed enough for the 1st chapter I think, shame performance is a bit shoddy. Not sure when they're planning the next phase/release.

Final version. There will not be any more alphas and betas, all devtime and focus goes towards final build. And the latest techbeta is year old with zero optimization, so making any judgements based on that is meaningless.

Think I got the baron edition, which gives me the first chapter only.

Afaik you will get the full game. The Acts have been discarded, they are making one full game and will follow with full sequels if successful.

The trailer has abated my fears about the voice acting.
It's a shame that the game has been delayed until February of next year, though. They had touted a 2017 release up until now! Still, the more polished, the better. I just hope they haven't compromised the fidelity of the PC version because of console parity!

I've had the special edition on order since 2015. I hope it's worth the wait!

They actually stopped mentioning 2017 release in interviews lately, now we know why.

The first act is essentially the base game, and will be available from day one on consoles and PC. It's reputed to be about 50 hours in length, which is longer than most AAA games.
The second and third acts are clearly intended as future DLC.

Not DLC, sequel. Although there will be some small DLCs most likely.
