Kings Lynn

Rofl, never thought I'd see King's Lynn and the surrounding areas come up on OcUK!

I work in King's Lynn Mon-Fri, and it isn't great. The population is split between foreigners, trolls and the occasional 'normal'.

I too am looking to move closer to Lynn, but as others have said, the rent is too much for somewhere with such little going on.

edit: I live in Upwell, between Downham Market and Wisbech by the way.

Wisbech is an absolute dive. I try to avoid going there as much as possible to be honest.

Watlington isn't too bad of a place, but a bit remote :p I've been thinking about moving there myself.

Don't really know much about March, but whenever I go there it isn't a pleasant experience..

Anywhere close to Peterborough will make life fairly easy for you.

GNER (or whatever it is called now) is 50 mins from Peterborough to London.

If you fancy the cheaper (and slower train) aim for near Cambridge, Godmanchester and the villages around Huntingdon are ok (apart from Chattaris).
How's the train from cambridge slower when it's 45 mins to Kings X?

My recommendation would be Cambridge, if you want to be in a village stick to the south so that you can get a train from Audley End or Whittlesford (although won't be as quick as the kings X express).

What's the point in benefiting from lower house prices if you end up spending your entire week either at work in London or spending 4 hours a day travelling too or from London?

Because then I have all weekend to relax in a nice house further into the country with the mrs and our dog :)

The key thing is that unless you're going to live very close to your work in London, then your commute is likely to be approximately 45 minutes to an hour on average anyway.

If it just so happens that your work is near to a good mainline railway station, or a tube stop or two away, you can still have an hour's commute but live out in the [relative] countryside.

I can see why this is attractive - I had friends in West London (Hounslow) who commuted to university (Kings) every day - it took them an hour and a half door to door. There was another guy doing a PhD - commuting from Cambridge - it took him slightly less!
