I purchased this 8GB memory kit from OC UK that was recommended by OC UK for my Toshiba Satellite A660-149 Laptop with Win 10 installed. I have just updated the bios to the latest 2.30 version. However, Win10 will NOT start? The bios DOES show the full memory. I have tried with just one 4GB module, and tried each slot, but Win 10 will still not start? I reinstalled the old 4GB memory modules and Win10 starts OK. I will try and contact Kingston and Toshiba to find out why! Any help or advice please.

I have been in touch with Kingston and they say this memory is NOT compatible! So OC UK are wrong and this has cost me a lot of wasted time!

Hi bud, just taken a look and that is indeed a bit strange. That machine IS meant to be compatible with 8GB 2x4GB setups. What did OCUK recommend you get. There may be a specific incompatibility which OCUK wouldn't necessarily know about.

Crucial themselves list that explicit model compatible with the following:
Crucial 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB) DDR3L-1600 SODIMM

CT5308034

    • DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V •
    • upgrade for Toshiba Satellite A660-149 system.

OC UK recommended the Kingston HyperX 8GB kit, BEFORE I purchased. OC UK said that if the ram is recognised by the bios, which it is, and a WIN 10 recovery screen comes, then the RAM IS OK. The Win10 recovery quickly shuts the laptop down, and does NOT restart, so I may have to do a fresh Win10 install, or reinstall the old 4GB ram that DOES start WIN 10. I am almost sure this is a WIN10 issue. A simple memory upgrade that turns into a WIN 10 nightmare! I wish that I knew about the Crucial ram, but then I did trust OC UKs recommendation.

I'll be honest, if its being recognised at BIOS, it does sound more like an issue somewhere else.
Can you download a memtest boot disc and run this? Could be the memory is faulty...

Strange though!

I could not perform a memory test. After a Win10 reset. The laptop kept shutting down, and would not even go into diagnostic or repair! Upon installing the original memory, the PC and Win 10 starts up fine. So I am returning the memory back to OC UK, as I have TOTALLY exhausted ALL efforts with this.
