Kingston NV3 1tb vs Samsung 980 Pro (which would be better to use as main SSD - for gaming)

Hello everyone,

As per title, I am building a new gaming PC for my daughter. I already have a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB as back up storage in my own PC, have also bought a Kingston NV3 1TB.

Would I be better off using the Samsung as the main SSD for her PC, then add the Kingston to my PC as the second SSD? or should I just use the Kingston as main SSD in her PC?

Thank you

I'd be more comfortable with the 980 Pro as a boot drive, assuming the firmware is not subject to the issues awhile back.

It is hard to say 100% which would perform best, because the NV3 has variable hardware, but the 980 Pro is almost certainly the superior drive (in terms of components and the expected endurance) because it is positioned as a high-end drive, whereas the NV3 is sold as a budget drive.

If you can afford it, get the Samsung.

I actually have both. I bought the Samsung 980pro 1tb for my PS5's expansion and yesterday I put the Kingston NV3 1tb into a nvme caddy to use as my Mac's Download folder (my Mac only have 256gb internal so I am trying to declutter).

They both get to the speed they are advertised and in the real world you won't notice any difference but the Samsung would be the preferred for more important stuff. For example I have no real issue if the Kingston dies after a few years being it is only £44 and what's on it I can easily download again really.
