Planning on doing my first build for a few years in a couple of months. Would it be worth me purchasing this when the offer comes? And then just have it sitting in a box until I get the rest of the stuff. Looks a really great price.

NAND pricing is creeping up so if deals like this crop up then its certainly worth a purchase.

Tempting for my laptop! Do these drives have any problems or anything? My laptop is only SATA-II, still worth it?
Not sure about it being only 120GB though! Could upgrade my main pc boot drive instead!

On SATA-II they are still exceptionally fast and faster than all SATA-II drives due to being able to max out the port.

As for a system drive they are also very very good indeed :)

How do they compare to the m4 and the Samsung ?

A little slower overall but with the odd spat of faster performance. Performance however between drives is barely noticeable if not at all unless you bench them all the time (which is no good anyway).

For the price its got far more than just an advantage thats for sure.

FYI The V200 is faster in all bar 1 test thatn the v+200 as the v+200 is based on the sandforce controller.

Personally if funds allow and outright speed is required then I would only go with the M4 or samsung 830.

If you are looking at budget get the Kingston V200 (not v+200).

This gives a good comparison of various drives:

Wow!

If faster means less numbers then your on to a winner! Tested your theory, flawed does not even begin to describe the results.

i'm put off buying this drive now because if the last chart is anything to go by then it is significantly slower than my crucial m4 128Gb.

Thats the V200 mate, not the V+200

The Chap who posted this post posted V200 results and tried to claim that its faster than the V+200  One obscure result showing a test that doesnt represent true to life performance does not constitute for a slow drive being quicker than a fast one.

The V+200 found in this thread HERE shows that it is faster than all similar drives such as the Agility 3, S510, Force 3 etc and is most cases seems to trade blows with the likes of the Vertex 3 and S511 etc

its in a completely different league to the V200.

i have the regular v200 version and i boot in 21 seconds (timed using bootracer which waits for all disk io activity to stop) but thats counting
gigabyte bios splash screen
bios POST screen
raid controller bios thing where it detects my drives
me pressing enter to choose which os i want to boot into

neither are those benchmarks you link to true to life either which is why they are reffered to as synthetic.

its interesting in the real world the v200 has file copy times much faster than the v+200 though.

in reality on a day 2 day basis i doubt anyone would notice a difference if someone broke into their house and swapped a v+200 for a v200

This is why once a drive has everything installed even an 100Mb/s drive due to access times etc will feel as fast as a 500Mb/s drive.

You are right the controller is better however the speeds that actually count of the results that make the V200 look better are 4K64Thrd rather than big file sizes. Reason.. windows is on these smaller sizes and as a result the sandforce generally is faster on this due to the micron controller being of the older type.

Thats why i like the Agility 4. On paper is miles slower than the Agility 3 or Vertex 3 but in reality it trounces it.
