Hi,

I've been looking at Kioskcd to use on some machines that I want to boot from CD into a Firefox environment only, no menu's apps etc. However, it appears that Kioskcd development has now stopped and the current version available for download does not contain drivers for the newer Dell NIC's. Can anyone suggest an alternative, or is there any recommended live CD's that could be customised to achieve what I want to do?

Thanks.

Looking around with Google I see lots of articles and such for setting them up but they're all ancient (1997ish). You might try to build your own from Ubuntu Server or CentOS. Install X, a window manager, perhaps rat poison?, and Firefox.

IIRC KDE has a built-in kisok mode. You might want to shop around on the KDE forums.

This is what I have found also.

I have also discovered that Knoppix can be started in a desktop=kiosk mode, but at present this has to be typed manually on boot. The latest version of Knoppix successfully detects the NIC and loads the correct drivers, so I may see if I can modify a standard Knoppix disk so that it boots from CD using the desktop=kiosk mode.

Thanks.
