Back with a Vengeance.
I don't know if this is a repost, but I've never seen this one posted here anyway so here goes.
This looks like a peach of a motor. 2 Hiyabusa lumps nailed together.
2.8 litre V8
400 brake on standard cams
245 lb/ft torque
Engine weights just over 14 stone.

Ok, it works out at around £15k, but for a brand new engine with that kinda output and, more importantly, such a low weight what else are you going to use?

Shame it has a flat plane crank, would sound like a proper V8 with a cross plane :(

There's been several of these bolt-two-jap-bike-engines-together-v8's, but cost is always a major problem. 15k will get you a complete Caterham in fine condition, or a fairly special Westfield, or a completely mental MK/MNR/MAC#1 etc.

They also have a fairly short (compared to a similar output road engine) lifespan between rebuilds and as such are a fairly costly option.

There are quite a few varieties of these floating around these days :)

an impressive engine no doubt but goes against the ethos of most kit car builders i think seeing as though most of them would build two or even three cars for the price of the engine alone :p.

i also imagine 400bhp in something that weighs 500kg would be absolutely terrifying in a road going kit car. 800bhp/tonne is insane. i may be talking complete crap but i'd imagine you need some extensive aero work on a seven to make use of the power at high speeds, or even to reach them as we all know, aerodynamics has never really been a strong point of the se7en

Agreed, you'd have to be very sinlge minded to want or need one of these engines. But, for those that do it'd be a hell of a choice (assuming money isn't an object)

A friend owns this rather special Caterham:

Which has a RST V8 motorbike derived engine. It was developed by Russell Savory who used to be quite big in BSB I believe.

A few more pictures of the car & engine are here:

Looks the part and I am sure it would go like stink too, but most of these types of engines need lots of fettling on a regular basis to run cleanly, most kit cars spend 95% of the year parked up and resting, and I suspect that would mean lots of tweaking and fiddling every time you wanted to take it out for a spin.

Cracking lump mind.

i think that sort of power is way too much, traction is an issue on my 135 bhp car under 60 mph, and as said earlier top speed power is now what these cars are about. Alltho i do admire the engineering thats gone into such a beast.

After some diy i have managed to make my 135bhp bike engined car into something i think is just right, but im unsure what power it actually developes.

c20xe :) much better than them all ending up in corsas, give a good engine a decent home although zetecs are dirt cheap too

SR20DET?

comes in FWD, RWD forms, each relatively cheap ~ £500? comes as ~ 220BHP Standard, raises to 300bhp for relative cheap boost,....

probably weighs less than 130-140kg due to all alloy construction...loads about, loads of spare parts, ultra reliable...
