Hi all,

I have just moved into a brand new flat which has a light grey granite worktop in the kitchen. After a few days I noticed weird dark spots all over the cooker that I cannot wipe off. On top of that sprinkling water over worktop leaves dark stains, which go away in a few minutes.

I started googling around and found that granite is porous and would therefore absorb liquids. Water stains will eventually evaporate, but dark spots that don't - are oil.

People seem to suggest stone kitchen worktops need sealing and looks like mine isn't. I watched a few videos of how to do it, and it seems straightforward. However, I am struggling to find the actual sealer. My local DIY shops never heard of it and most I could find over the internet with good reviewed are US products not available in the UK.

Does anyone have any experience sealing stone kitchen worktops? Can you recommend a sealer?

Search B&Q website for "Granite sealant" and sealer pops up. Probably the easiest source. All the big sheds sell it, you just work it in as if you were oiling a wooden top etc.
