Kitchen quotes

No gas, plastering is/will already be done so at most wiring hob and oven (and maybe hood unless it just plugs in) and plumbing sink. I'm checking!

I assume you have thought about the plug sockets on the counter for appliances? You'll probably want a switch for the hood and oven, and they use different wiring from standard sockets if I remember correctly. Does the quote include tiling?

Confirmed, it's just fitting as electrics and plumbing are already included in previous quotes for work already undertaken. In which case, steep I assume!

That's a crazy price for just fitting units etc.

Christ, could have that size of kitchen mostly done in a day with a couple of guys.

Say £250-300 a day with kitchen supplied with most fixings, I'd want a price more like 600 to 800 max.

I've just recently purchased a kitchen from Wren, supply only with my own builder/fitter doing the install.

So far no real issues, a couple of doors/panels needed replacing but that was just a couple of phone calls and replacements were sent through.

Why did we go with Wren? Well I was aware service could be hit and miss but their kitchens are well made and after a lot of negotiating I got them to beat DIY-Kitchens on price and going with them opposed to DIY meant I had someone to go back to if anything was ordered incorrectly (something I couldn't have done with DIY).

Quartz tops and splash-backs are due for install this Saturday (this is the one thing to be fitted by Wren, well J Rotherham) so assuming that goes to plan I'm more than happy with Wren.

Revised quote with square rather than rounded end units.

Provably will go beech as well which'll knock £70 off.

Just starting to think about my kitchen now and this thread has me concerned. I am going to want plumbing work and electrical work doing as well as the floor and walls being tiled/painted.

I am assuming then I would be best suited finding a suitable contractor who can do all that, remove old stuff and fit new stuff then get the units from DIY-K?

Howdens look good to us but not really looked around as still in the process of going through with house sale etc. Got an architect friend who is on board and will help

The chains (B&Q, Wickes, Wren) will charge you a fortune for any installation work and all they do is pass it on to a local contractor and take a huge mark up.

You could save a little money by organising all the services (plumber, sparky, etc) yourself however it makes more sense to just pay a single fitter/contractor who arranges his own services as you have a single point of accountability and avoid those situations for example where the plumber is blaming the tiler and so on.

Cheers, confirmed my thoughts. Now to find a reputable contractor in SE London.

Howdens quote finally come in, it's more or less the same as Benchmarx but it's taken them so long to get back to us that they were already out of the running really unless it was a stonking discount.

Current kitchen Howdens. Cannot fault quality etc. This is why i think we will go with them again.

Right final quote which we've accepted. Upgraded the sink to just a nicer/neater one. Going to get beech worktops from Chippy Shop for £250 which brings the grand total to £2,235. Pretty happy with that!

Think it'll be another £1.5k on appliances. Got a Neff Hide n Slide for a bargain £360, Bosch induction for £309 and a Beko washing machine and tumble dryer for £189 and £169 respectively. Still to decide on dishwasher and fridge.

Exciting!

Gonna need a new kitchen soon, old one already ripped out gonna rewire and replumb - think the next step is to get a kitchen design done so i know where cables and pipes need to be

Can anyone recommend who does the best design service, bit cheeky but not necessarily gonna use them for the kitchen but need a design layout to work with

I found it useful to use Ikea's myself, to then go in with print outs to give other designers the general gist rather than starting from scratch every time. Doing it yourself you can spend a bit more time playing as well. They're then much of muchness, all the same really, and each will vary slightly depending on the size and types of cabinets they offer etc so it becomes a bit more about the supplier than just the layout.

I ended up going to Magnet, got very lucky on a boxing day special sale.

There was only £300 in it when I did the DIY kitchen route, fitters, appliances (less quality stuff) and less hassle in sorting it all out.

Turns out the fitter will also do the all the new tiling, and underfloor heating for a nice sum as well, quite a big kitchen and its a complete rip out :)

They always have a sale but its worth popping it a couple of times and looking keen for a better deal.
