Afternoon,

After many moons of trying to get a kitchen sorted (since Feb 2013) we finally have the units, worktop and appliances in!

However, as the kitchen is fairly small in terms of worktop space for preparing food I'm just wondering what everyone has done in terms of space saving, either in cupboards or the worktop/walls.

I started to move in the plates and cutlery and such and found I've not got much room for utensils once everything else is in.

I'm sure a thread sharing some tips and tricks could benefit everyone!

I recently went on a space optimisation mission in my kitchen. I wanted more storage space without fitting a new kitchen or new units.

First of all, I replaced some of the internal shelves with soft-close pull-out baskets so I could make better use of the space I already had:

Then I put up shelving on the walls:

Oh and this utensil rail freed up a drawer:

I've still got a few more things to do.

Nice ideas, I really like the shelving and the utensils ideas though! Don't fancy drilling into the granite splashback for mine so could relocate.

Where did you get those shelves, would work well in my kitchen on the back wall. How far do they come out?

Where did you get the soft close pull out baskets Imy?

Few of ny shelves have gone so might just do that instead.

Cheers

I have everything meticulously organised and the walls stacked, but I've ended up using cabinets in other rooms to store my cookware.

One of the major space saving things was adding shelves in the cupboards and custom spacing them for my needs. Elimitate the air space.

Not that I've noticed but I don't use a lot of oil in cooking.

All of those utensils are used often so are washed often. Whenever I boil something I do it on the rear hobs so they even get a steam clean every now and then :)

I have lids for all my pots and pans which pretty much eliminates splatters.

I guess it depends on the type of cooking you do but I can honestly say it's not been a problem for me.
