So we are in the planning stages of our kitchen extension and refit and are pretty much set on the Altino Graphite units from DIY kitchens, but aren't particularly fond of any of their worktops after seeing them in the showroom.

We want to keep costs down and don't need anything fancy anyway so will probably choose laminate, and being dark grey units we want basically white worktops, but with some kind of subtle pattern or even a bit of sparkle in them to break up the large slab of white.

Any suggestions for places with a good range where we can order samples, or have plenty on display in the South Yorks area?

Thanks.

Having worked in B&Q a fee years ago. the selection of white Laminate worktops was limited we had 2 an old date marble one then a cheap 28mm plain white. There are plenty of wood effect laminates that would give a good contrast.

Ikea and B&Q have good ranges but very few have take away samples

Hi,

We went with DIY Kitchens and chose the Antarctica quartz from Natural Stone Surfaces which is the company they use for worktops. I can't see it listed on their website, but its a white with a very fine grey / silver dot to it, nice and subtle and glad we didn't go with a slab of pure white.

Natural Stone Sufaces are in High Peak, Derbyshire, SK23 if that's not too far for you to go? We were more than happy with their service.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies.

Wifey has her heart set on white (ish) and has ruled out any kind of wood effect, but being female there's plenty of time for her to change her mind :D

And although I'd love to go with a granite or quartz worktop it's really out of our extremely tight budget at the moment, once you factor in specialist fitting costs as well. Plan is to go with the relatively cheap laminate option for now that I can fit myself, then maybe change it for something more elaborate in the future.

Both Wren and Howdens generally have a decent amount on display to look at in person.
Thanks. We ran the gauntlet at Wren but nothing floated our boat. I'd thought about Howdens but was under the impression they were trade only. Will look into that.

It looks like there is a supplier of 'Egger' laminate worktops in Leeds. Egger is about as good as you can get for laminate worktops. I believe most of the German kitchen manufacturers use Egger laminate tops.

Yeah Howdens is trade only m8
Not sure if you can open an account .Might be worth a look to see if they will

They say they only sell to trade, but have showrooms for the end user to go into and see what they offer.

Ifyou can afford it get some form of stone tops they finish the kitchen so much better than laminate and give a real quality feel artisan stone are a good sheffield based company we chose one of the cheapest quartz tops (white with grey flecks) and while it wasn't cheap it was worth every penny.

Wonder how long till we see a “white worktop stained by coffee cup” thread.

White Sounds like terrible idea.
If it stains with a coffee cup you got the wrong stuff! Even our cheap mfi laminate didn't pick up a coffee stain in 11 years of use and our white quartz hasn't in 7 months work surfaces are sealed and wipe clean!
