Building my first loop and have hit one or two problems with the gpu block and I wonder if I have managed to break it before running at all

The block is an EK FC7950 Copper/Acetel .
I had a few issues with stand offs which slowed me down but these were resolved BUT I think I have now a problem that is not so easily resolved - the barb and the plug to the copper block are good BUT I cannot tighten ,fully, either the Barb or the plug to the Acetel (black plastic) side.
I put it together a few days ago ; to hit the stand off problem - I decided to dismantle when it became clear that it was going to be a few days before I could progress and noticed when dismantling that the plug was not flat and that a part of the screw hole plastic(acetel?) was attached to the screw(plug) thread - I had managed to screw the plug in at a slight angle
.
Have found now that it will not tighten and lock -it appears to tighten up but then , at the end , simply goes round and round - stiff yes but locking no....
I have been pondering wether I should even try it (I have not yet completed the loop , added the water and run it) for fear of the damn thing leaking- what do others think?
Is this normal? (the barb that I fiited to the Acetel side which I did not cross thread will not lock tight either
).- is it the case that the Acetel side never allows tightening to a stop?
Should I go for a copper alone (no acetel) block ?

o) into the acetel and now have bits of acetel thread hanging + the plug will not tighten (getting loser as I try to tighten).
- All thanks to you !!
