Hello all,

It seems that whenever I try and load a game on my pc either straightaway or after a few seconds textures on the screen will corrupt and the game will freeze, usually requiring a computer restart though sometimes I can alt tab and close down the game. At one point I did see the same corruption just on the desktop with no games being played. I've uninstalled my drivers and updated with the latest on nvidia.com with no results and am unsure of what if anything I can try next. The card temperatures are fine 60-80 degrees, same with CPU etc, nothing has changed with my computer I have barely used it the past month.

The card is a gainward nvidia 8800 gts 640mb, on windows xp sp3, an asus motherboard of somekind with 2gb of geil ram and a 550w seasonc psu.

I'm pretty sure it is knackered but there's no harm in checking.

Thanks chaps.

I think so, the card is three years old in march so I wouldn't expect the warranty to be valid still. Hmm, what to do now.

Ok, thanks for your advice guys. Looks like it'll be going in the bin, what are other good graphics cards to replace it with? I'm not looking at bleeding edge stuff, probably £150 max, so something midrange that will be able to play games at a respectable detail level for a couple of years.

I did look at this 5770 vapour-x thingy quickly, though I have no idea what offers best value for money these days, always used to be nvidia, has the balance changed now?
