Hi guys, I have for several years had issues with both my knee's, I have dislocated both, (my right one being so severe that the knee it's self dislocated something like 100 degrees out of place). Anyway as a result, I pretty much abandoned any type of physically exercise as I was terrified of hurting myself again. However I have been going to the gym doing work on my legs and have felt vast improvements, few of my friends have invited me to go play 5s with them on a regular basis. I don't care if I suck at it, I just want to reduce as much as possible the chances of doing my knees in again.

I believe I am looking for a Patella Stabiliser. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Thanks

I used to use one a long time ago, but I guess that means it's somewhat irrelevant. They keep the knee warm and if you get the hinge variants, at a bibt of stability. However, they will not prevent it.

Ironically, abandoning all exercise was probably very detrimental to the recovery of your knees: it will only recover with exercise (your doctor would have told you this...)

However, football is horrific on the knees so I would be VERY careful about jumping in.

How is your knee now?

Fellow crap knee poster reporting in. I don't play football because of the massive strain it puts on your knees and the risk of injury. If you're not that fussed about it, why risk it?

how are you with just light jogging, some quick sprints and turns?
I'd not put the pressure of being in the midst of others yet unless you know your knee is up to it.

You can get stabilisers or neoprene sleeves. You'd need to try a few to see which is best for you.

As a fellow knee cap dislocatee, (man it ******* hurts, last one had three failed attempts at relocatin before they gave me the knock out drug in a&e), I have pretty much given up on playing team sports ever again. Any time i get cocky or confident, I have a subluxation incident. It's pretty lame.

Hence why I am going through the motions to get stabilisation surgery.

Basically, just be careful.

Another crappy knee guy here.. Though I haven't dislocated mine, my patella sometimes doesn't track properly.

I can't give you much advice on knee support as the various support bandages I've tried have always had little or negative effect.

I've recently (for a couple of months now) been taking joint supplements to help my knees along and I've noticed quite drastic improvements. I went from not being able to bend my knee after a few km run to being able to run 5k with no discomfort afterwards..

I've never trusted these and have tried countless different types in the past, never having noticed the effects. But these tesco supplements seem to be doing the trick. Could be a coincidence but I'm going to be taking them until I'm a fairly confident and fit runner.

My uncle and a lot of the guys he grew up playing football with now have completely destroyed knees to the point of needing all sorts of lovely corrective surgery, so personally if you're worried about doing more damage I'd give it a miss.
