knocking sound on the car..

I have started getting a knocking sound on my car which usually occurs when starting off or turning right. The knocking sound lasts about 1 or 2 secs and then stops. 99.9999% of the time theres no knocking sound. The sound seems to be coming from either the back (or front of the car - echo). What might be causing this noise. A failing cv joint/driveshaft?? - how can i tell, what do i need to check to findout whats causing the noise? Want to find out if it is anything serious. My car is a 1998 mit carisma by the way.

I would take a guess and say its the cv joint on the way out. Have a look at the CV boots to see if they are split or leaking grease.

I would say get yourself a Haynes and look at the proceedure and decide if you can do it. I think you will have to remove the driveshaft - not too hard a job

Def get it looked at. My other halfs CV joint went when she was driving along and nearly lost control. Luckily was going slow.

it was the cv joint on the passenger side, got it replaced. thanks guys
