Hi guys,

I recently found myself in South Korea for a day while travelling home, and during that time decided to have a stab at some Korean cuisine in the food court at Incheon Airport. Upon the recommendation of the guy working on the front counter, I ordered Bulgogi (or Pulgogi according to some) which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm looking for a decent recipe to make it myself now that I'm home, which is easy enough to find online. However, what's escaping me is finding out what the four small side dishes I had it served with were.

One was Kimchi (which I really liked), the other a firey red paste which I think was Gojuchang, and the third was Japchae (Glass noodles). The name of the fourth however eludes me. It was a small portion of noodles in a mild white sauce of some description (insert cream of Sum-Yun-Guy joke here). Anyone on here into their Korean food who can throw some light onto what it was?

Thanks in advance and finally, 乾杯 geonbae!

I don't know how to cook any of what you've mentioned but I do live near New Malden which supposedly has the highest population of South Koreans anywhere outside South Korea.

Kimchi is pickled and fermented vegetables which sounds disgusting but is actually delicious, I doubt you could prepare any without some serious time and I think it needs weeks to ferment.

I buy that and the glass noodles whenver I'm in the area along with various other Korean goods - there's a cinnamon punch drink in a half coke can style size that needs to be tasted if you like cinnamon, it's insanely good.

I'd recommend googling Korean supermarkets in New Malden and phone them to ask about the mystery noodle dish, chances are they can tell you what it was and sell you the ingredients too.

Thanks for the suggestion fella, although London's a fair trek for cooking ingredients when you live in Cheshire. ;)

For anyone in the North West, I've discovered an awesome place in Manchester, Seoul Kimchi that's reputed to do awesome Korean food. I'll be going there in a week or two, so I'll report back what it's like.

Nooo. Don't go to Seoul Kimchi. The food there is quite a lot less than awesome, though not terrible. The two places I mention below are far better :)

For lunch style food you should pop to Eat Goody. It's located very near the Sugden Centre and they do great dupbap, bibimbap, etc. I recommend their teryiaki ginger chicken dupbap and the pepper chicken side :)

For more of a restaurant vibe you should check out Koreana. It's near the city centre and they do really really good food.
