Nay, the salt itself is not Kosher, its just a name because this type of salt was used for koshering meat (drawing out the blood or something).

The salt itself has coarser grains than regular table salt (much like sea salt), and doesnt have iodine/silicates etc added.

well obliviously. But what is special about kosher salt, what rules does it have to follow?

Some supermarkets do but only in areas with a sizable jewish community.

All supermarkets do a certain degree of specialist products if the area demands it.

Unfortunatly the supermarkets around me dont carry anything I ever need for any interesting cooking, so have to go calling on the specialist food shops instead.

You should be able to get kosher salt in a cash and carry type place or cooks shop however, as its used a lot in professional kitchens as well.

I used to buy it from a Specialist food store which unfourtunately shut down. Ill try Costco next time Im there, or Ill have to get it from London.
