Hi

Just received my Krypton ocuked bundle 4ghz one  Went for the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R mobo option.

Couple of questions about setting up the Corsair H50-1

1. The 4 pin connector for the Corsair fan should go onto the 4 pin CPU fan connection on mobo. What about the power for the 3 pin connection for the pump? I got 3 3pin connectors on this board i can pick? Sys2 fan/PWR fan or NB fan, all have 3 pins. Take it any one will do ?

2. I know to power the Pump connection, it needs to receive a constant 12V, Do i need to turn off any of the power saving options in the BIOS? Reading the handbook it does mention CPU smart fan option which is enabled and fan speed control is set to AUTO.

I know this bundle is pre-configured so i guess i shouldnt need to worry but I thought i'd make sure.

Cheers

Or just cut the control wire........... but I wouldn't take my word for it although i did do it to my HSF connector!

just double check on boot in the BIOS.

Sorry for being a noob :o but what am i looking for?

I am not familiar with this board. Could i tell this by looking (in the BIOS) at the rpm speed or fluctuations on the voltage once i hook it up?

Looking at the manual (similar setup to my X58-UD5) only the cpu fan speed has speed control, so you will be fine plugging the pump in any other port.

For future reference the power supply fan header usually is just monitored and 12v across all boards since usually its for PSUs with fan monitoring.

got my bundle the other day too :) went for the stock cooler overclockers provide and has kept my temps in check (35c idle and 80c full load using prime 95)

Just waiting for my shrouds then i can put this monster together :p thanks for the responses.

Vintage-x did u alter any settings in the BIOS?

yeah but nothing processor wise. It was all to do with the unused sata ports (It was annoying me that on boot it would look for drives on the unused ports)
I have mine in a silverstone Raven 2 case looks shiny :)

(oh and one annoying and scary thing is that when I switch on the pc it will do a power on and off cycle 3 times before it starts. Dont know weather this is normal or not but dont really want to mess about due to the fact I know hardly anything about overclocking

Just noticed on the guide here the mobo needs a 24 pin Power connection as well as 8 pin ?? Man shows how long i last upgraded. Take it the 8 pin additional power for the cpu or something

yep. Took me by suprise too.

I just hope my Modular Corsair 620 PSU has enough juice to cope with it, as i have 3 sata drives and a 4890 to hook up. Noticed there no fans on the board too. Take it the heat pipe metal blocks does the same job.?

I plugged my H50 into the PWR fan header. And I turned off smart fan control or whatever it was called in the BIOS.

Yeah may do that as well, as i probably want the thing on full throttle too. See how it goes first with the temps.

One thing did u guys use the thermal paste that came with the H50 or applied the Arctic Silver 3 that came with the bundle?, does it make that much of a difference? Was going to use alcohol to wipe their paste off the heat sink and then reapply AS3 in the middle so a thin spread is applied across the surface when it mounted. Is this the best way?

that PSU will be fine :)

the h50 comes with decent enough instructions, but the overclocking and cooling section here has a great thread about the H50

i generally advise customers against using the supplied thermal paste on the H50.

we have seen in testing, much better results using AS over the stock paste.

Im using the same psu with no problems. I have 3 hdds 2 ssd 1 dvd rw a blu ray and an ati 4850

Really? I found it to be very good myself. Afterall, they use quality Shin-Etsu thermal compound.

Preparing to put this monster together today. (it's alive muhahhaha)

I have a few queries for the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, I am probably going to download all the drivers from the Gigabyte site for my new Win7 64 build instead of using the disc, is this recommended? Also any preference in what LAN connection i use? Any useful tips or advice would be welcome.

Cheers
