L glass is much happier on xxD than xxxD !

I'm interested in finding out just how sharp the 70-200 f4 L IS is too at f4 - does anyone have any samples? the talk earlier on in this thread about it has me intrigued!

Will have some next day or so got a couple of days worth of shots to work through but someone might have some they can post quicker than my ones.

Look forward to em mate :)

As for the moment, just been out whilst the sun was out after washing the car and managed to sample out some shots with birds landing in the local creek, below was at 3.5 as 2.8 was quite hard to knock on the head for getting the focus locked onto the birdy whilst it was moving!

(DOF is a thing I need to practice now as getting it dead on with panning shots is quite a task)

I think I need a body with super fast AF performance and more AF points + spot meter! I think I need a 40D for sure :)

Ah very nice cheers for that, they do look extremely sharp and verifies what some folks are saying, that the f4 is sharper than the 2.8 at f4 !

Edit*

Just reading this review it states that the F4 L IS has noticeably better flare control than the F2.8 L IS - it also has the newer IS system for 4 stops of compensation instead of 3 on the 2.8 (though the 2.8 is 2.8)....

It also goes on to say how the F4 L IS is sharp from F4 and remains sharp all the way. From my 2.8 findings the 2.8 is sharp/sharpest from 3.5 onwards (you need at least 3.5 to avoid flaring too I found)

I'm now even more interested in more F4 L IS samples! - I might be as drastic as to even sell the 2.8 L IS and get an F4 L IS, I'd sacrifice the 2.8 aperture but gain sharpness constantly at f4 and have to carry around half the weight of the 2.8.

But then the downside is that no < F4.0 so I might be limited for indoor shooting though this is less of an issue due to shooting outdoors usually always.

Decisions decisions! I'm glad I got the 2.8 first though as I now know what it's like and have a better perspective of my options :D

Then again I'll probably end up just keeping the 2.8...!

I own a 400D and the build quality is not bad at all. A friend of mind owns a Nikon D80, build quality very good.
As for picture quality, about the same really. So I would love a 40D, how ever I am going to stay with my 400D for a few years to build up my skill then perhaps chop it for a 40D model.
Also I find decent lens are very important, I have a Sigma DC macro 17-70mm which I think is a cracking little lens. Say little is actually some what heavy !

The whole 40D question is I think, would you use the extra features it can give you ! ?
Is it portable to go every where, ie holiday, indoors, weddings etc.
I recently took my 400D skiing with me as it fits easily into a small bag.
convience is just as important as features !

That's true I guess but with the 70-200 I have to take my camera backpack with me whenever I'm out with the camera so size isn't too important as it all goes on my back anyway :p

I hear the 450D is out soon, it has 3.5fps though so only a small amount faster than the 350D I have now - I would totally use the 6.5FPS of the 40D though and at £599 after cashback it's a killer price since the 450D is priced at £600 at launch!

I think the 450D is over priced !
I was reading an article whaich stated that both canon & Nikon did not make much profit on the budget DSLR market. So it seems they are trying to do so now !
I also agree the 40D is a cracking camera and if I own my 400D a little longer I would trade it in for the 40D. I just want to have some more mileage out of my 400D really. It seems that now DSLR's are becomimg disposable items like mobile phones ! !
I 1st brought a Minolta X700 with I used for years and years. when AF was all the rage, then APS, and now digital.
The speed of developement on DSLR's is truely amazing !

Aye I guess development times are decreasing all the time but saying that the 300D was one of the first budget DSLR cameras available to /everyone/ price wise - that was some years ago now looking back and since then we have had many many budget dslr cameras from all brands!

Those years have flown by because we're all so busy have fun it just goes whoosh!

disposable:confused:

next time your throwing out a dslr or mobile throw it my way :)

they are becoming more affordable especially with the competition there is at the moment but id never describe them as disposable bot unless a few hundred quid means nothing to you

My friend who owns the D80 is selling it ( it is only 5 months old ) and buying the Nikon D300. As I mentioned the D80 and my 400D the picture qaulity is apx the same, It is the features he now wants. Though some times I wounder if he is trying to get better pictures with a better camera instead of trying to get that good photo like I had to do when I ownd a 35mm SLR !
I think it is becoming to easy, or if you want it can be easy. I just wolud like to squeeze the best my my 400D and me. If I can take good photos then I will up grade if my skill will benefit from the better camrea.

I agree with the competition, SONY, Fuji, Panasonic etc all wanting a bit og the DSLR cake. Which isthe fastest growing area of the digital Visual market at the moment !

I have a quick question guys if that's ok, I just realised this!

Basically I had already sent off the cashback documents for the 1st 70-200 and of course that lens has been returned to the shop I got it.

Now the replacement came same as the first one did, boxed and everything including a new receipt.

Theoretically would it be possible to send this lenses barcode off for the cashback promotion too? Just wondering!

It's just too cheeky :S I might just email Canon and ask if they'd mind.

I mean it's only £75 but both could could towards a nice 1.4x/2x extender!

Damn it I'm a manly man not nice and sweet!!!! :p

I'll send off the voucher as soon as the bank transfer of the first £75 comes in, just incase they decide to not pay both !!
