L4D1 or L4D2

Killing Floor is better than either, in survival mode.

:)

I love Killing Floor. Once again, I play the games for different reasons.

It's not far off coming out and saying that Alien Swarm is better than Killing Floor. Yeah, you may enjoy one more than the other but at the end of the day you don't play them both for the same reasons so the comparison is nearly meaningless.

If you play L4D survival mode, its exactly the same gameplay as killing floor.

It's far from exactly the same (Killing Floor has far more features and is better in terms of this, as you're no doubt in agreement with). Comparing an entire game that is built around survival against a small portion of a game that is mostly built around other game modes is unfair however...and also not really a realistic comparison as most people playing L4D1/2 will not be doing so for survival mode.

I prefer Killing Floor to either L4D1 or L4D2, but they're very different in terms of gameplay.

To be honest, KF involves a LOT more tactics, if played correctly!*

(*says the level 6 support who buys an AA12 shotgun on wave 2)

Yeah :p

I tend to run around as berserker for a few waves until mid game where I'll go commando and then finally onto sharp shooter.

Troll? Just because you probably aren't bright enough for the tactics in Versus in Left 4 Dead does not make the simpler game to play better.

Yes Killing Floor MAY be better than survival mode in L4D1, due to more variety, but L4D2 kills that one.

There is also the point that FrenchTart mentions in that they are two different games. (Just incase you hadn't noticed I got fed up of the idiotic comparisson when Killing Floor first came out.) :(

Going back to OPs answer, most L4D1 content is now in L4D2, so you may as well just go for the latter, though personally, I preferred the grittier, more atmospheric first one and I agree with Reflux, the OcUK crowd we had playing VS mode of the first were the best times I've ever had in PC gaming. :)

I think I agree, the sequel is the sensible option but I had a much more fun time with the first game. It was brilliant running through co-op the first few times and at times was quote frantic and scary but the second just didn't feel as real. I don't know if it was the switch from nighttime to daylight or the new special Infected but the first was a real 'cool!!' Moment for me.

Its episodes used to run after the other, but you can pick and choose when you find one you like...
It would be nice if there was a L4D mode in L4D2... maybe there is - where you don't have any of the new specials in it, just the smoker, boomer, hunter and tank.

Got it. Just had a quick 5 min game and it seemed alright :)

Does it have a story mode or is it just a blast and run game?

no story mode, each episode is a story in its own rite, they are chronologically linked so if you want to play them all in order you can.

No Mercy
Crash Course
Death Toll
Dead Air
Blood harvest
Dead center
The sacrifice
The passing
Dark Carnival
Swamp fever
Hard rain
The Parish

Cold Stream, is a stand alone episode and doesnt fit into the list

you could swap dead center and sacrifice if you want to finish all the l4d1 maps before moving to l4d2 maps

I loved l4d1 but that jockey thing was just a stupid idea in 2. First game was more fun.

40 odd hours in steam for the first game. 6 for the second!

I don't know, it's really all about who you play with. I do miss playing this but I'm never around any more.

As for which to get, L4D2 is the way to go, not only has all the content been ported over but you will also be destroyed playing L4D as most of the players still on it seem to have upwards of 1000 hours :o
