La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 - Season 2013-2014 Discussion

He's 20, I think too many forget that. think of Bale 4 years ago, he was ****(ish). Ronaldo at 20 was good but not a patch on the player he was at 24.

He's in a new country, a new continent, a new league, was ill over summer and has had injuries in the season, playing for a team that generally plays for/to Messi. I haven't seen anything that makes me think 100mil for sure, but he's had more than enough really pretty damn good games and scored enough goals that at 20 he's showing signs of being a very good player in the future.

Consistency and big performances in big games aren't really thinks you rely on 20yr olds for.

Messi has been off his game since his injury last year, hasn't looked remotely the same player at any stage since. Even in games he may score a goal, or three, he's been WAY less involved, way less sharp, just no where near his form of 2 years ago.

He's 22 but your point remains the same :)

Barce were really dire to watch today, it reminded me of Mancini's last season for City, all the passing but no clear cut chances (if any chances at all!)

It's all so narrow, Barce need an overhaul tbh, their style is so predictable and past it, teams can exploit it easily.

Congrats to Atletico for winning the La Liga, well deserved and makes a change from Barca or Real winning it. Simeone has done wonders with that team, shame that Costa looks to be out of the CL final though :/

Barca?? lolworthy this season. Messi hasnt looked at all interested playing and Martino has stepped down as manager...looks like Enrique is taking over next season but for me Barca need to change the way they play...this whole tiki taka football isnt working for them anymore...teams can beat them now. Plus they lose Puyol and Valdes this summer, 2 huge names that they will struggle to replace.

Amazing. I'm so pleased for Atlético! Almost moved me to tears in all honesty, a fantastic season for them. Wish them all the very best in the Champions league final too.

Barcelona have problems, amazing to look back a few years to the all conquering Barcelona under Pep.

Pretty sure Messi scores plenty in the big games mate.

You said he was complete dog **** - load of **** that is

You said he was average - he was quite clearly much better than average

He has been average, 14 goals all season, only 2 of which came in "big" games. Have you watched him? I've seen him around 10 times this season and he lacks the ability or vision to consistently best players, he has his moments certainly but world class? No. Good? I'd be hard pressed to agre with that. Average? Certainly this season.

He has a great rep but hasn't backed that up.

Messi against the bigger teams in the bigger games (City x2, Milan x2, Real x2, Atl x2) had 8. Flat track bully is a bit harsh as he does score in bigger games but quoting goal stats is deceptive as he really bangs them in in the smaller games. Last night for example he just looked a bit lost, perhaps it's the fact that Barca in general have been found out and need a new plan and he's constricted by the system but he doesn't look as good this season as the last few.

1 bad season and messi is past it. I suppose not getting another 50+ goal season means he should be sold. The whole of the barca team is a mess. From the squad up to the board it has all gone **** up. Between the neymar and messi tax cases, tito sickness and death, club president resignning, Messi injured and other off the field issues i am not surprised by how poor they have been.

But nothing can take away how good atletico have been. Hope they get the cl too.

The longer you watch the game, the more you see teams rise and fall. Barca have had good and bad patches (by their standards) for like 15 years, it's just the highs have been giddy so a season where they don't win anything is seen as catastrophic. Beats being a team like Ajax though.

Exactly, let's all not overlook the fact that this Barca team who are supposedly so "poor", where 45 minutes away from winning the league, still reached the QF of the CL and the final of the Kings cup. Given the turmoil that has surrounded the entire club this season, it's not surprising that it hasn't been their best.

So Seedorf took over Milan, wasn't expected by most to do at all well. They had 22 points in 19 games before he took over. That is 1.15points per game, he took over and got 25 points in 19 games or 1.84points per game, which over 38 games would have been enough for fourth.

Really good to see him do so well, hope he gets the chance to continue.

Fantastic player.

That's if he retirs. Rumours that he's going to stick around for another season, I for one welcome that.
