Lacie 250 gig droped arg!

Hey guys,

I droped my external lacie 250 gig hd yesterday and no think im a bit stuffed. When it switches on it makes a horrible grinding noise and is not pciked up by windows. I get the plug and play sound but it just shows a a generic drive and wont let me do anything.

I know its probably a write off but is there anything i could try, as it has all my music etc on it.

obviously don`t tell em you dropped it
have heard about putting the hdd in a freezer for a few hours then being able to copy files from a hdd(never done this myself though)

Freezer hey? i would ask Lacie but i belive its a bit old now, any point in takeing it or sending it to a specialt or are they just gonna charge me a fortune to even look at it?

more than likely internal damage, software will prolly not salvage it unfortunately, stuck unless you got a lot of dosh.

I tried bunging it in the freezer for 30 mins then plugged it in, no affect unfortunatly. Should i leave it in longer and let it warm up before i plug it in? any other wild suggestions , out a window then try it hehe?, or i gues home contents is next grr.

sounds like its toast mate you can possibly get the data off it but it will cost you hundreads of pounds if not more data recovery is very expensive.

i `think` you need to leave it for a few hours,make sure it is inside a few sealed plastic bags though.
i have never done this myself so you takes your own chances

actually just had a thought, is it worth banging in an old 120 gig caviar i have, or is anything spcial needed to be done for it to work via the usb on the external box?

if it is only the hdd that is fubared then it should be okay
