Lacie D2 250gb - Cant see it in Windows

Hi All

Got a lacie D2 connected via USB.

However I cant see the drive anywhere in windows, with the exception of the device manager which shows it.

I cant see it in Diskmanagement to format it.

Im guessing this is because whilst formatting it on another pc the pc crashed and rebooted. I cant find a way of formatting the drive

Any Ideas

is the power on for it?
is the cable correctly plugged in.
is it showing in device manager/usb safe unplug app (the green arrow thing) do you need to install drivers (win 98 etc).
are you using it from a USB hub? (not all USB hard drives work with hubs).
have you tryed other usb ports?

Yeah its got power, tried other ports, and its plugged in directly.

The drive shows up as being ok in device manager

I think its some kind of partition/formatting issue

Try Disk Management to see if it is showing up at all.

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management.

Tried that, it takes ages to load it, but it isnt there

If it's not in Disk Management then there is something wrong with the drive I'd say rather than a formatting/partition issue.

Don't know if it would help, or is even possible witha USB drive, but I'd be tempted to try a low level format using a bootdisk.

I think thats what I might end up having to do. Might need to take the disk out of the enclosure to do that

Give GParted a go, there's a chance it might be able to read it, where windows cannot.

guys, if he can't find it in device manger then he's not gonna be able to find it to format using anything tbh.
its a duff jobbie.

Thats just it, I CAN see it in device manager. Just no where else lol

Download the GParted Live CD and boot from it. It might see it.
