Wondering if anyone in here could give me a little help regarding my 500Gb esata drive.. ever since I upgraded to Vista64 its started giving me grief in the form of it repeatadly dropping off and dissapearing until I reboot.. With my experience of hard drives from years ago, when stuff like this happens its a indication that the drive is about to go west... However i'm just a little suspicious that its started since Vista64 went on, before then it was fine.. i'm using the latest drivers for the Raid controller from the asus site, my MB is a Asus P5W64 pro, 4Gb ram, core 2 duo extreme clocked to 3.66 on water.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated :)
 
Hmm....if you google around there are lots of people who've had problems with their eSATA ports. I have an external hard drive with an eSATA connection and have tried plugging it into the single slot onboard my Asus motherboard but nothing is detected either in My Computer or Disk Management.

I've been googling like absolute crazy, people seem to have all manner of issues, some say the drive doesn't get detected others say that their PC randomly locks up which is close to what i'm experiencing..

I did read somewhere that it might be something to do with the power settings powering the drive down even though its being used, as it was happening when I was leaving the pc and importing thousands of photographs,, I changed the power profile to never ever turn off hard disks, and its been fine for 4 hours now, when earlier on it was doing it every 15 mins.. will have to wait and see..
 
For my Asus board, the e-sata worked but it caused sound to "stutter" every so often. I bought a cheap silicon 3132 chipset pci-e card and that works a treat without any problems :)
 
Well its still doing it, the worse thing is that it works for a random amount of time then drops off..
I'll buy a cheapo Esata card and give it a whirl, I'm 90% sure its not the drive as it worked fine on Vista32/XP... :( :(
