Lack of good games nowadays?

I took a 6 month break from gaming as I was so so burnt out, came back and been playing more than ever, some games that I played recently that I really enjoyed were (metro trilogy, last light being the best imo), darksiders genesis I really really loved, dno why but I was addicted to the combat, and I have 110 hours in that game, not bad considering it only cost 25, resident evil 2 was amazing, doing another witcher 3 playthrough, still my favourite game of all time, Also got into gwent the witcher card game as now its on steam, f2p but done very well, I haven't spent anything yet and the rewards come thick and fast, although I did have thronebreaker and got a fair few rewards from owning that, halo 1 (aged **** or the mcc version sucked I don't know) but reach and halo 2 have been amazing to play, spyro is amazing as well, and ofc I went back to street fighter 5, love hate relationship but I just love the sf series and seth is so fun to play, theres a lot of **** out there but A lot of gold too, I think taking a break can really do wonders if you find your self logging into a game then quitting a few mins later

games that have been amazing in the last little while
The Outer Worlds
The Outer Wilds
Doom
ALYX
Minecraft Dungeons (don't @ me)
Resident Evil 3
Valorant
Apex Legends (yes it's BR but it's good)

just because there's not loads of games YOU like doesn't mean that they are not out there.
it takes several years for games like GTA and the Witcher to be finished (hence cyberpunk 2077 later this year) so you can't expect studios to pump them out every 12 months!

RE3 was a huge let down imo.

If you've bored of the usual PC titles I would say to try out a VR headset. Either Playstation VR, Oculus Quest or the Oculus Rift S as there are loads of amazing experiences over those platforms.

Also, give the Switch a shot as Nintendo have been doing a great job of putting out quality exclusive titles you just don't see on other systems.

I'm also excited to see what Playstation5 and XboxSx bring to the table when they launch later this year. Even if you don't play on those systems it'll improve PC gaming as cross system titles are often developed with the limitations of the existing 7-8 year old Xbox/PS4 in mind. It's more difficult to do anything truly new when you're constrained by hardware that dated.

What I have found recently to get out of a gaming slump is play coop games with friends.
Bit like herding cats sometimes but worth it, gaming solo or with randoms just makes me depressed nowadays.

Also mentioned games like Rimworld, deep rock galactic and factorio etc have tonnes of replay value.

Otherwise, take a break and come back in a few months.

Subnautica?
Factorio?

Try the above, see you in 6 months :p

(the factory grows...)

Subnautica really was awesome. I'd swap Factorio for Satisfactory now though, I loved Factorio but the 3d of Satisfactory makes such a world of difference that I prefer that now. Or could do all 3 of course :D

Loved subnautica, I enjoy that base building aspect in those sort of games, why I loved ark so much too. Dayz would be my ideal game but I am a bit of a graphics whore..... :(

VR, most likely the rift s is definitely a purchase once prices drop a fair bit more, can't wait to play alyx and that upcoming iron man game looks rather decent too.

Indie devs are schooling a lot of the AAA outfits on how to make good games now, IMO.

I'm fed up with the same old formulas and mechanics, indie games have restored my faith in the industry of late.

Definitely looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 though.

Subnautica has to be one of my best gaming experiences of the last few years

Not tried Satisfactory yet, don't like the idea of the fixed world, but will probably give it a go at some point

Yeah I would like it if they randomised the world but to be fair, its absolutely gigantic and you choose which biome to start in and each biome in itself is enormous and presents different pros and cons. Subnautica was just so good and came out of nowhere, a real sleeper hit. Another title that I have really enjoyed, which is basically Subnautica in Space (even has some identical game mechanics) is Breathedge , I also recommend that one for anyone who liked Subnautica.

tbh they've done that as otherwise you'd get worlds which were super easy and ones that were super hard.

Going to have a look at breathedge, loved subnautica!
Attempted no man's sky to fill the void but felt a bit underwhelming and can't say I enjoyed the crafting/layout aspect.

Even when you look at this sub-forum, there is hardly anything at all other than the usual snore fest battle royale games along with cod, gta 5 and that's about it really.... Seems like even some games that do look promising always have zero longevity to them.

Have noticed the same with youtubers too, other than when they have their sponsor videos to get out, they are going back to older games.

Seems like there is only the last of us 2 and cyberpunk, there doesn't look to be a whole lot on the horizon for this year either :/

I do find myself unable to enjoy games I may have done 5-10 years ago. They just don’t hook me and feel like a chore. But there are still plenty games that I do enjoy relative to the amount of time I have to game.

Currently really looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2 and somewhat looking forward to Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines 2 (the latest trailer was awful).

In the mean time I will have completed any back log of games I have on steam and moved onto installing old classics I enjoy. Not played Fallout 3 in a very long time, might give that a go at some point.

Don't agree at all. Plenty of good & interesting AA games coming out, likewise for indies tho for those it's hard to sort through them until you find the good ones. AAA isn't doing too bad either tho I also personally feel disappointed by a lot of them.

Honestly, there's not enough time in the day to play through all the good games available. Let alone counting everything else available in life. Imo we are very spoiled for choice today.
