I've managed to get something on my PC, I think. Yesterday it was running fine, this morning it was ok for about an hour, I left it for a minute, and came back to see the internet wasn't working. I'm connected to the network, can see and share files with the other computers on the network, but anything to do with the internet is a no, I can't even access the router in IE or Firefox.

Did a virus scan, NOD32 found a Win32/Rbot trojan and removed it, no luck. Ran hijack this, cleared out a couple of unknowns from there, and it looks clean now, but still no internet.

When something tries to access the internet, it seems to crash. Firefox closes with a popup saying something about Data execution prevention.

I'm currently on a different drive on the same PC, and its all working fine, so something is obviously borked on the Vista x64 install. But I have no idea what. I'm building up a line of scans to do (Spybot, Adaware, superantispyware), but the virus doesn't seem to be there anymore, I just need a way to reverse its affects. Any ideas?

Cycled power several times. In the end I just hit it with all the main adware programs untill they weren't picking anything up, then system restored. Seems to be fine now :D

Bah, its back again. Deleted it with nod32 again, system restore to get everything working, and I'm going through all the spyware programs again to catch it before it screws everything up, assuming its being restored with system restore.

Turn off sustem restore before doing virus / adaware scans or they will be unable to remove the problem. 99% of the time these bugs will hide in the system restore folders and adaware, nod32 and spybot cannot access them as they are protected.

Thats what I'm guessing. However, a system restore seems to be the only way I can get my internet working once its all been disinfected.

I'm not sure what its doing, firefox just refuses to display anything at all, IE throws up various 'I can't see a website' errors, even if I try to just navigate to the router, when I close anything thats trying to access the internet (Xfire, MSN, Firefox/IE) it crashes instead of closing, and I can still ping websites. I checked the host file just in case, and its clean. If I could sort that problem, then I'd have no problem disabling the system restore.

Or the next time it happens, I'll get the virus, restore, disable restore then hit it with all the scans. Sorted.
