Lack of sleep

So. Ive been up since 9am this morning and im going to Santa Pod tomorrow all day. Now im leaving for Santa Pod tonight at 11pm and will be having a slow drive down with frequent stops and arriving there around 8 tomorrow morning. Then by the time we leave at 6ish and get back it'll be 12pm or maybes very early Monday morning. Ill let you do the math but thats a long time without sleep. Ive tried sleeping today but i just cant sleep during the day. Am i putting myself at any risk? Im drinking strong coffee now and im wakening up a lot. Ill also take a couple Pro Plus when i leave.

That's a long time to be without sleep if you're doing a hefty drive...

If you fall asleep at the wheel it's not just yourself you're putting at risk, is it?
 
Why would you be worried about not having enough sleep when your a passenger =\
Just sleep in the car =\ Unless this has been made illegal now...
 
You will be fine without sleep for a few days, surprised you've not missed a night or 2 at least once before. However if your driver is going for the same amount of time then I'd be more concerned about that.

The best option would be to share the driving with each of you having a Kip.
 
well if you still have not had no sleep when you get to the pod, i am sure the top fuel and jet cars will keep you awake!
 
Lack of sleep is not a good thing. I've been there and after suffering hallucinations I don't want to be there again.

I was working full-time and also had a part-time job which, over the course of three weeks, became more like a continual 24 hour shift. A busy time of working concerts meant that I would leave for work at 7am and finsh at 5pm which just left enough time to get to my part-time job at 6pm. I would finish at 4am and get home for 4.30am and would be back up at 6am to get ready for work. You can see my quandry but money was tight and I didn't have much choice. I should explain that after working security at the concert, the place would get cleaned up and the club would open up for the punters to dance their little socks off till 3am. By the time we got them all out and got the place spruced up again it would be 4am. Still with me?

Anyhoo, after three weeks I was dead on my feet. It was around 2am and I was keeping an eye on the crowd when I saw a lad raise a bottle to hit someone so I charged in, bundled him to the floor and as he had lashed out at me, I smacked him across the chops. Unfortunately his nose wasn't quite up to the task of resisiting my punch and it broke with a loud crack and a gush of blood. All thoughts of fighting left him and I helped him down to the first-aid area only to be dragged aside by one of my fellow stewards and asked why I had whacked a lad who was handing a drink to his friend. :eek:

Loads of apologies to the lad and a free crate of beer was enough to ease his pain. I was certain I saw him attack a lad but several of my workmates saw differently and I have to accept I couldn't trust what my brain was telling me. Lots of sleep ensued.

If either of you drive while tired, you risk killing each other and other people.

Sleep deprivation, even in amounts far below what you're referring to, has dramatic effects on concentration, co-ordination and reaction time. It's probably the biggest single factor in road traffic accidents.

It looks like you're talking about 40 hours without sleep.

You can do that. I have done it. You will not be competent to drive towards the end of it. If you sit down, you will probably repeatedly lose consciousness for small periods of time - microsleep. Caffeine only goes so far and it's a bit of a fake wakefulness.
