Lack of Sleep

Ok this is annoying. I'm on about 24 hours no sleep again, and have a 9 hour shift meaning I won't get to sleep till 11, so around 40 hours again. My sleeping pattern is screwed though, the last week of uni we were getting up at about 9:30 pm and going to bed at 12 pm. So worth it though, was a brilliant week :)

Sponsored stay away followed by a day at a Uni open day thing. 7am to 6pm the following day, so 35 hours. Went to bed at 6pm, woke up at 12:30 the following after noon :D. 18 and a half hours sleep was epic!

Regularly used to do over 24 hours while at Uni.

I sometimes go for 3-4 nights in a row without a wink of sleep. Towards the end I start to hallucinate pretty badly.

At that point everything feels not real (like you're in a dream) and my brain feels like its a washing machine inside. I'm slipping in and out of "consciousness" while still being awake, if that makes sense. So my mind takes me to places from my memory, for example, I was sitting at my PC at home whilst in semi-trance, and I turned to my side to speak to a colleague at work but suddenly realised I'm not at work, I'm at home.

Sometimes I hear a loud voice like someone shouted a syllable in my ear, but I'm not sure I really heard it. (I was alone so logic tells me obviously I imagined it). When it's night time and I'm leaning out of my en-suite having a ciggy I look at the tree branches with the night sky behind it, and can clearly see visually the branches are getting denser and darker, even though they aren't. It's really freaky! I've also seen things like every day objects look like they are trembling ever so slightly even though they aren't.

Hallucinations are a really bad sign you desperately need sleep. :o

How did you get on the plane if you were asleep?

I was awake for 48 hours before a flight and then slept from taxi to taxi (meaning I was on the plane, as it was taxiing toward the runway for take off and then landed at airport and taxi'd to the desitnation airport gate).

i work 3 eight hour night shifts one after the other over a weekend with hardly nothing to do or keep me amused, can't take my laptop in and then i look like a zombie when i wake up on monday evening

Out of interest, what's the longest you could do without sleep if you were forced to stay awake?

I remember hearing that you would die if you went for 2 weeks without sleep but I have a feeling that someone was having me on... :o

I've done almost 3 days straight on a job that needed finishing for a Monday morning, parts suppliers screwed me badly and didn't get some bits until Sunday midday. Had to work as well Monday.. so basically from Friday night to Monday night. Took the train from the jobsite and collected my car Tuesday morn as i was definetly too shattered to drive.
