Lacking motivation - How do YOU beat it?

Everybody struggles with this, you literally just have to make those first few steps. It's a chore mind, that battle with your lazy self. I know I am in a constant struggle.

just train your brain. Give yourself a nice reward after each "chore" or thing you cant be bothered doing.

Eventually you will be doing the "chores" as a matter of habit and the reward wont be needed anymore. The start is always the hardest but after that its all downhill.

A lack in motivation could be down to low dopamine levels in your brain. Dopamine regulates mood and motivation and you need to eat foods rich in essential amino acid phenylalanine which the body converts into tyrosine then into L-Dopa and finally into dopamine. You can also top up your diet with DL-phenylalanine supplement powder.

If your diet is crap, You'll also need some B vitamin complex and VitaminC along with some calcium, magnesium,Mucuna pruriens and to top if off something like 5HTP and krill oil.

You can get most of this from my protein.com/hollands&barrats.

The main thing is to get diet in check first though, but it's not always easy and that's where external vitamins and minerals come in.

I know it's hard when you have zero motivation, but even gentle exercise will help massively. I posted the above ingredients to get you going so you can build up the energy through diet first to get going and the motivation to take the dog out will come out in you naturally.

just changing eating habbits helps loads, every now and the I change my diet to eat better, I can have less sleep , less lazy as I do jobs I normaly put off. I also feel loads better , none of this whats the points in life crap. but .... then I fall of the wagon and end up eating crap again.

I use other things to motivate me to do the normal things, I have a list of things I want to do which are not normal day-to-day jobs, but in order to do it I have to get my boring things done quicker and earlier (or work smarter by combining activities like a run with the dog) so I have time. A good hobby or building/repairing/sorting is something I enjoy which motivates me to get out of bed, earn the money, do the daily stuff, then I have fun.

Finnally found a response about food. 3 years of take aways and junk food, your body just wont have any decent fuel to run on. Hence it doesnt want to move.

I generally lack motivation, this is in most things in life.

From getting up for work, walking the dog, doing the housework and sometimes even making/ordering tea.

Work - Each morning I struggle to wake myself up until the last (it's too late minute) so I rush around and end up around 10 minutes late for work daily.
Walk the dog, I could sit there for 4 hours after work telling myself I am going to walk him.. But just keep telling myself I can sit there instead.
Housework, I look at it thinking what a mess I hate this look blah blah but don't do anything about it.
Making tea I can rarely be bothered and have lived on takeaways for 3 year.
Gym, two years and two days ago I signed up for the gym. I've been only a few times, maybe a maximum of 10 yet paid for the subscription for 2 year now.

Once I do something, walk the dog, at the gym or whatever I do my best and feel 'motivated' so a 'i'll just walk the dog round the block' could go from a 2 minute walk to a 10 minute, or 1 hour etc... But it's getting to the part of doing.

You get the idea..

So what motivates you? Have you been in a similar position, what did you do to get past these said 'barriers'? What made you feel this way?

Women. You want one, you got to sort your self out.

You also need to set your self aims and goals. Have a plan and dreams.

It is easy to get in that rut and quite hard to get out of it. I have been there myself and still slip in occasionally. I find eating healthy gives me more energy and my dogs are the best company, so walking them has never been an issue but sometimes getting motivated for that can be hard as well. The weather is also a downer and with the cold weather and comfy sofa, it sure can be tough to move.

Pick Monday as your new start date and eat healthier meals. Take the dog for a decent long walk and after a few days, you will start to feel more energised I guarantee it :)

Possibly the easiest option ! :D

True - I am trying to turn around my diet (Assume since you know about the 3 year of takeaway you've read my takeaway thread!) and it is getting better, although not perfect a hell of a lot better than it was.

I love my dog and his company and often beat myself up for feeling like I am a bad dog owner. He gets out once a day at least for a good walk (sometimes my dad takes him while I am at work) but there is the odd day where I don't get him out and it kills me. But I try to give him the best and always attention/treats too.

I'll use Monday like you say and report back how I get on.
