ive just got an X1800XT 512mb for £240 inc delivery! (Thanks Welshtom :D ) and i had a feeling my cpu may cause some bottlenecking as im only on an A3000+ (clocked to 2.18ghz) so i ran 3dmark and got a score back of 8350 which is far better than my GTO2 buy lousy for an X1800XT 512. sooo of to the bios i go, trying every blooming combination i can think of and the best i can get the CPU up to is 2.2ghz due to a locked multiplier and a gig of lousy crucial value ram. (interestingly the cheapo gig of twinmos i use along side it which i bought from MM loves being overclocked, might have to go find more)

and in order to get the 2.2ghz the rams on a divider... i also pushed the PCIE frq up to 110Mhz (not entirely sure what that will do, but i thought what the hell...) so with my wopping extra 20mhz and an even larger bout of disgruntlement towards my crucial ram, i booted back in and ran 3D05 and got 8550 ...

looks like im going to need a new CPU regardless of the ram though, the problem is ive got no money left, grrrr. going to have to wait now to try for 10K :(

ah well, its still a fantastic card at an even better price and i guess it gives me something to grow into over the next 10 months.

Better than my 05 score, A64 3500+ and an x1800 XT 512mb all stock gets me just over 8.2k, regardless of the score my x1800 XT can throw everything around maxed. :)

A64 3500+ is about what my venice is doing, so seems reasonable that we get similar scores :)

p.s. ACESHIGH, does something interesting happen if i do that??? ;)

I was planning on buying that card of Tom before but lack of funds, i wasnt able to.

Although i got a sapphire x1800xl now. Broke 10k 3dmark05 last night:D

Will upload score to ORB once more testing has been done:)

well, id say ive got definate growing room... :) this should do me for the next ten months shouldnt it??? by the way, what should the clock speeds be on this? they look a little odd...

Sure the venice cant overclock a bit more? Just seems out that it conks at 2.2? Mine does 2.7/8 easily and 2.5 with 4sticks of gielvalue ram :x

Also was lead to believe nearly every 3000v should do 2.5?

hmmm... i suppose i am going to have to change the ram anyway, will have to look around and see if i can get 2 sticks of twinmos to go with the ones i already have. i mean they are not great clockers but they do 235 at least unlike the corsairs that just dont want to go over 200 regardless :(

lol, well sitting her now i have a GTO2, a 7800GT and the lovely X1800XT which booted the crap out of BF2 on 6X AA :D cant wait to try X3: reunion... i cant play it but it looks nice lol

May be cheaper go for better RAM; I find running a divider really kills performance.

I find running the CPU at a lower speed because overclocking the RAM too far limits the CPU overclock really kills performance.

/me loves dividers (see sig)

I have the same ram as you and can get it up to 250mhz 1:1 @2.8v with timings of 3-3-3-5 1T Prime 95 and memtest stable taking my cpu from 2.4 up to 2.7 ghz (11x250). The ram is well cooled the as i have a SI-120 sitting on the cpu with a 120mm Thermaltake Thunderblade blowing down over the ram.
