Every 5-10 minutes i get a lag spike lasting for about 5 minutes, it happens on all my games, my pc can handle the games as i used to be able to run them fine, and on max settings.

I don't think it is anything to do with my web connection as it also happens when playing offline play.

Any suggestions?

Are you on a wireless connection or wired directly to the router?

I am on wireless.

Are you the only one (or think you are) on your network?

Someone may have hacked into your network and using your bandwidth if you have no security setup?

Security I use is MAC address filtering easy to set up oh and WEP for what its worth !!.. which router do you have?

crappy ISP router that usually fail with more than 1 person using games/streaming or a proper one?

Not too sure on that one, but my download speeds are okay they are around 500-700kbs.

huh?

Where's your router from? (wireless box thingy).

The ones ISP give free are often terrible and really **** up games when more than one personal (or specific engines) are in use.

Could it be the WZC thing?
If you're using the windows wireless zero configuration try instead using the drivers for the wireless device.

Normally its a small lagspike every 60 seconds if its the wireless polling thing... :S

We didn't get ours for free, we bought it for around £70.

Check memory usage, is it swapping to pagefile (hd thrashing)?

Given that it happens in offline games the router should be irrelevant.

You're on wireless for gaming???

*slaps op*

Get a hard line. Someone may be on the same channel as you.
Don't give a crap what the reason is. Get a hard line :)

If its happening in offline games too its not likely to be the wireless. Most likely something running in the background, anti-virus, trojan/virus or some other background task.

Aye this. Powerline is worthwhile, just don't get the Belkin Gigabit Adapters, they suck.

If I wad you there's a few things I would try
one I would swap what ever your using receive the signal from the router with the one on the other pc's you say also on the network.
This will tell you if it is causing the problem

another thing to do is is if u can move your pc to your router and use an wire to connect to it and see if u still get the problem also while doing this as u don't need any software while wired kill all but windows processes and try again.

It's a long process trying to work out what's wrong but u should get there.

Sorry for misspelling and stuff on my iPod at work ATM
