Hi
This is my first post so hopefully it makes sense.
My son has recently started recording Minecraft in OBS Studio along with a caption of himself in the corner on a webcam. The problem is that we are getting really bad lag.
I have copy and pasted my system details which I think is what you would need to help me?
Please help if possible
Thank you.

GPU is Intel(R) HD Graphics 530. I have just set the preference for this to high performance for Minecraft (but that was after I had already typed the below)
I wouldn't know if OBS is set up as you say. I will look it up in the morning.
I have just closed down EA as a startup app and it actually hasn't started glitching again yet....this is probably just coincidence and I will try again in the morning.
I tried task manager and it said that exploding a large TNT was getting just above 50% CPU usage straight after it exploded but came straight back down again.
OBS will not show in task manager while I am recording.....I guess this is normal though?
Thank you so far

I should think the integrated graphics would struggle to play the game and record, it is very basic, unless you mean the IGP is being used to record and another graphics card to play?

no, just one for all.
I did try and look up which graphics card was plug and play for this setup but it kept saying no Nvidia etc was compatible....

yer using the CPU for game/GFX/OBS is not going to work

I am not so savvy....
I tried the well known part picker but it said none were compatible with my motherboard. Maybe I did it wrong

Depending on the size of your PC tower, it might only support low profile cards, which would restrict your choices a lot, but we'll find out soon enough.

If it has no power connector AND has to be low profile, then something like a used GTX 1050 might be your best bet. The 1030 doesn't have the encoding support so best avoided.

yer ne needs an SFF GPU with no power plug

i think given the GPU options he will still struggle with obs

Exactly which Optiplex 7050 do you have? Is it a tiny model (SFF), desktop (medium size), or a tower (bigger, floor-standing) model? From the model number and that you have 32 GB RAM, I think yours is the desktop model. If that's the case (ahem) then we may well be able to help. What you need to do is open the case and see if there is a spare power cable that splits into a 6 pin and a 2 pin connector. This is called a PCIE power cable. If you have one then your options expand considerably. Now look at the back of the expansion slots and see how big they are. Are they one thumb tall or two? If the former you're limited to what are called low profile cards.

Hopefully you have a PCIE power cable and a full height slot. In which case I can recommend the AMD Radeon RX 6600, which should cost you about £200. If your budget permits, look also at the Nvidia RTX 4060, AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT and RX 7600, and Intel Arc B570 and B580 cards. The RX 6600 and RTX 4060 are also available as low profile cards.

If there is no power connector then you are limited to 75W cards. Take a look at the Arc A380, Radeon RX 5500 XT, and GTX 1650 (not the Super).

Do note that all these cards take up two slots so do make sure that there is a second free slot!

If it has no power connector AND has to be low profile, then something like a used GTX 1050 might be your best bet.

If it's the SFF model with no power connector then it will almost certainly have to be single slot too so most GTX 1050 cards will be too big. Probably the best card would be an Arc A380 low profile for about £140. Heaven help us if it only takes a MXM GPU!

Morning all
So this is the inside. Any suggestion as to upgrade appreciated. I would be looking at hopefully rtx 40++. I think for future proofing and as I want the ray tracing and triple monitor ability.....
I sound like I know what I'm talking about far more than I do so please keep the technical stuff basic level?

From the picture the power supply is 180W and doesn't appear to have a PCIE power cable.

Additionally there is not a lot room beneath the PCIE motherboard slot (the long blue one)

Can't quite tell if the case is low profile or not but one option could be an RX6400 which are generally one slot and low profile.
