Hello

I have just purchased a PS3 and was looking at the shops future release maagzine and came across Lair, has anyone who owns a PS3 heard much about this game, and is it likely to be any good?

The magazine describes it as:

"In a world ravaged by endless conflict and natural disaster, a call for peace turns into a bloodbath of betrayal and deceit. Playing as a warrior riding a voracious dragon trained for deadly aerial and ground combat, and capable of scorching, clawing and smashing thousands of enemies, gamers must defeat countless armies to save a civilisation. Together, the gamer and the beast will attempt to change the destiny of the world on the brink of extiniction

Any opinions welcome.

All I can tell you is my latest copy of games(tm) gave it 3/10 and summed up with "So another thoroughly underwhelming release on the PS3."

They're pretty unbiased (they gave Two Worlds on the 360 a 2/10) and generally on the money.

Sorry for the bad news.

To be honest i would rent it, if you get on with the controls you prob will enjoy it, story is supposed to be good. Some reviews have rated it well, but more have given it in the 5-7 mark (average), in famitsu it scored as well as PGR4, its all down to the controls. Thier are a few other issues ive heard about like with frame rate and not knowing what you need to do at some points but im going to rent it and see.

To add to the poor reviews above, Edge gave Lair 3/10. I have't played it, may rent it one night if really out of other options, but Lair sounds like a poo Rogue Squadron shoe-horned into a dragons/fantasy setting with woeful controls.

Rogue Squadron on Gamecube was awesome!

And to think all the ps3 fanboys we're like "Lair will pwn" XD
Not really, I was however excited after seeing videos of it, unfortunately the game IQ is inferior coupled with bad controls that are annoying makes for a bad game.

Thread resurrect time!

Just got Lair on rental, only played for an hour or so, so not a full review as such more of a first impressions type thing.
First of all the sound is very good on this game great music and sound effects, the cut scenes ive seen so far are nearly up to Heavenly Sword in quality. The Graphics seem very good at present no real problems with frame rate or screen tearing.
On to the big issue with this game, the controls, well i must admit i was expecting the worse and im pleasantly surprised. They're no way perfect but apart from the odd time i keep trying to use the sticks (doh!) when flying its not as bad as ive been lead to believe. The dragon seems to be quite responsive, you only need to move the controller a bit to make the dragon move apart from the 180 loop which you need quite a big flick of the controller to register. It would have been a much better game if they had implemented analogue controls though but its not unplayable at all, not sure if since the initial release if any of the patches have improved the control but at present its not causing me a problem.
The ground controls for the dragons are good and you feel like a killing machine, torching soldiers, biting their heads off clawing them to death is great fun and so far the best bit of the game.
The biggest problem im having so far is the "radar" or arrow pointing to where you should be going, its a bit confusing and not sure what all the different colours it goes mean lol.
Couple of things i want to try though, is firstly streaming the game to my PSP, it was one of the first ( may still be the only?) that you can use remote play on, ie play the game on a psp using the PSP analogue stick may be a laugh!
Also i've noticed that you have access to your friends list and messages in games, so i think you can send and receive messages in game, not tried it yet though.
Anyway i think ill keep going with it to the finish now and tell you guys my final thought of the game, as i dont think many of us have played it as i cant find any names on the online score tables lol. Its still in the Rent only pile for me though.
