Hi peeps,
I'm looking at going to the lakes for a long weekend over easter and was wondering if anyone had any advice on places to stay, things to see etc.

Will proberbly be driving up there and looking to hire some bikes for a day, maybe take a dingey out if theres a decent place to do it (and its not snowing) and do some walking in the hills.

Would like to stay in a reasonably nice hotel / b&b but tbh i'm really not to sure where abouts i should be looking.....

any advice would be great :)

Cheers
Sam

#go biking in the Grizedale Forest.

The North Face track is ok. (might be a bit dodgy for a beginner)

Laods of marked routes. Mostly Fireroad.

Ambleside is cool. (if you like climbing shops :D )

Bit touristy

You want to be looking at Bowness or windermere. Windermere is about 15 mins walk from bowness. Most of the places are small Guest houses You can go boating at bowness, either a rowing boat or hire a electric motor boat. You can go Biking at Grizedale forest which has excellent views.

Windermere can get too busy with folks, the lake has so many boats on it you can't see the water!

Keswick is a nicer spot, then off to Buttermere for some walking/biking.

cheers for all the suggestions, might have to pick up a rough guide or something from the libary, seems like there are tonnes of options. Its never going to be quiet over easter weekend, but the quieter areas are defernatly more tempting!

any more ideas / area suggestions would be great.

Cheers

This is true.

My parents have a time-share at Ambleside they go to in winter. It's really quiet and peaceful then and the views are amazing. It's even more special in winter when it snows. It's a really beautiful place to visit but a lot better when it's quiet.

You'll really enjoy it if you go. :)

Can recommend the Merewood country house. I got married there, it's a big old mansion house set up on a hill overlooking windermere lake. Only has about 20 rooms, it's between windermere and ambleside. lots of real fires and rooms for getting cosy in ;)

Keswick is lovely and peaceful. Lovely boat rides available on Derwent water (it's not a busy as Windermere). You can stop off and get off, walk around a forest visit Ladore falls http://www.visitcumbria.com/kes/lodore.htm, its not as good as Aira Force, but I'll get to that in a moment.

Great little B&B I found is http://www.acornhousehotel.co.uk/ can walk into keswick from there and plenty of parking :) gorgeous 4 posters at a great price.

Windermere is busier but there is more to do there imo. there are better little gift shops. A nice little B&B their (again with lovely four poster bedrooms) http://www.braemount-house.co.uk/

http://www.visitcumbria.com/sl/kendal.htm (just a normal little town, but river and castle ruins there were a nice)

There are loads of other places but these are my favourites :)
