I confess I've only got around to them over the past year or two but I think they great!
Done in a slow cooker, the meat just drops off the bone and cooked in wine etc, absolutely delicious when served with mashed potato!

I'd love to hear of interesting recipes for them!

Absolutely love them :) Even served them up for our wedding! Only ever tried braising them in a mixture of stock and wine with some rosemary though, then reduce it down and add some redcurrant jelly :) I like it with roast potatoes too, but then again, there are few things that dont go nicely with a roastie.

I've never had lamb shanks. I'm not really a fan of lamb in general, but I do like to do slow cooker meals so I might try some. Does anyone have any tried and true recipes, preferably for slow cooker / stew.

Have always loved lamb shanks since I had an amazing Mexican lamb shank dish in La Manga years ago.

Low and slow with plenty of spice.

Interesting youtube clip ElvisFan :)

Heavily spun 'documentary' and Alex Riley is clearly a bit manipulative but it's definately creepy that a food item can remain unrefridgerated for a year and go on to be cooked and served :(

*shudders*

What's wrong with that? A shank of lamb is cheap meat and it's delicious stewed. You don't have to boil the pants out of it either so it keeps the texture.

True...but surely the point is that it's cooked on the bone and is part of a recipe for that particular part of the animal!

It just seems a lot of work when it can be cooked on the bone...but there again, each to their own and to be fair, I love lamb, no matter how it's cooked!:)

Yeah but its better cooked on the bone for hours, then the meat just literally falls off :)

Just typing that has made me hungry!

Cooked some the other day. Grabbed the bone to lift them out. Ended up holding only the bone, came out clean. :D

Just gently cooked for about 3.5 hours, with a basic stock, then added a load of finely chopped mint about 10 minutes before the end. Mint gravy. ;)

How much do you pay for shanks? I just got 6 from my butcher for £15

Going to cook them overnight tonight, for around 12 hours, and serve them with mashed potatoes and vegetables for lunch tomorrow.
