Hi,

Does anyone know where would be my best bet at getting lamba sensor blocking plate for an exhaust manifold ? My car just blew its out almost ripping a hole in the side of the car.

Halfords dont stock them and im pretty sure most garages will want to fit it themselves or rip me off.

yeah, thats what im worried about, i managed to find half the bolt that was on the side of the road and screwed it back in to see if the thread was ok, half the thread seems to still be there atleast, then it became to stiff to screw any further.

Are all lamaba sensors the same diamater? these guys sell one, though it says for a scooby. The engine doesn't acutally need a lambda sensor, so I was just going to use a blocking plate.

TSL Motorsport

From my searching they are all the same size, depends on the vehicals connection but the general rule is aftermarket sensors don't last as long as the ones direct from the manu unless its a good quality aftermarket such as a bosch unit.

What you want is an Exhaust bung if the current one is dead, get it capped then a new one welded in.

clear that up for me matey, is the exhaust bung whats in the picture ? Is an exhaust bung the same thing as a blocking bolt?

I was going to buy a blocking bolt like the one from TSL motorsport and locktight it in, providing the thread hasn't totally gone of course.

The bung in the picture is if your current thread for the Lambda is broken you can either drill a new hole in the pipe and weld a new bung in allowing you to screw in a new sensor or cut the current bung off and weld this one in its place.

The blocking plate is really for use if you want to run say two O2 sensors a NarrowBand and a WideBand for tuning but don't want the wideband in the car all the time.

Personally i would not take the Lambda out it will mess up your AFR might break your cat and will lead to lumpy running.

what he has posted is a part you weld to your exhaust so you caninstall a lambda (lambda boss) into a non lambda exhaust, you say you don't need the lambda for your car soooo. you're best bet is to buy one of these below and just use the plugpart in your boss thats already there.

this

or this one

the one with the plug on its own actually costs more than both the boss and plug for some silly reason :/

although syaing you dontneed a lambda i guess your running carbs? rather than stock injection since most injection systems will use your lambda for closed loop running

ok, just to clear things up a little, the car is a 1.4 1997 Seat Ibiza, I bought it with a crack in the exhaust manifold which couldn't be welded. I consequently bought a new exhaust manifold from a breakers, this manifold had a lambda sensor in it, where as the cracked manifold previsouly did not.

My mechanic reckons that the engine has a sensor elsewhere and its not needed on the exhaust manifold, he therefore blocked it with a bolt which blew out today. I would get him to re-do the job, but he lives an hour from here.

Ah right, odds are the Lambda will be just before the Cat then :)

No need for two, sure you have the right Mani?

Get a plug in and then get it welded over as well :)

yeah, its the right manifold, came off a 1.4 (AEX) Polo, my car is a 1.4 (AEX) polo engine as well, only difference is the absence of the lambda sensor. Shame the guy who replaced it didn't just leave it in and cut the wires off.

i don't think I have a "boss in my plugpart", it just literally a threaded hole in the side. Just hope the thread isn't gone................

Cheers for the helps lads
