Lambo door conversion, Opinions?

I've never understood this "don't get lambo doors" mentallity.

I'm not a car modder, my mr2 is completely standard and I imagine it will stay that way. However, I've seen lambo doors on an MR2 and god damn they look impressive. They look impressive on most cars and I don't understand why people are against them, especially with modern day carparks and their patheticly sized spaces. Meh.

Way forward imo.
They use more room than normal doors surely :/

Don't be confused with Gullwing.

Lambo doors open straight up - vertically, requiring no room. Google images should help since we can't hotlink :)

Gullwing doors do, but lambo style doors move outwards only a very small amount and then pivot up from the front of the door, so they actualy are good from that POV. You are royally screwed if you roll the car and it lands on it's roof though.

The aftermarket mechanisms can be pretty ropey as well, spent a while talking to some guy trying to flog them at the Autosport show. I asked if the door locked in the "out" position when it was raised so that a gust of wind etc. couldn't push the door in and cause damage. He said yes and proceded to push the door a slightly whereupon it wobbled dangerously. I went forward to give it a push and he wouldn't let me, so I said, "I guess that answers my question" and walked off. Utter rubbish.

Ah, true :o Someone did mention DeLorean though.

Try getting out properly in a multi-story :p

Lambo doors are lambo doors..

but how do we refer to them koenegsesggegigigeg doors? the quadruple helix backflip wotsits...

I wouldn't personally...

There was a link floating about a couple of years back of some guy and a Clio (I think). He'd basically cut the doors off and attached them with some door hinges from B&Q .
Anyone remember that?

Gotta say actually, the red one looks pretty darn good... possibly the best LD conversion I have seen...

Looks like it gives reasonable room to get in and out as well...

:D

Theres actually a guy driving around Cardiff in a blue F2... He has the lambo door conversion and the fit and build quality was astonishing!

Not sure of the brand kit he used, but a friend of mine helped him fit them, my friend WAS totally against the conversion until he saw the finished product...

If styling is your thing mate then i would go for it. Im sure youve already seen this but still... worth another look/debate :)

Nah lads, theres a porsche boxster with a kit on it iv seen about in bristol twice, both times with the doors up, there lambo doors and they look great on it.

If it's the same bloke i think you are talking about (and i very much think it is as very few people have lambo doors on Coupes, especially blue F2's and people who live in Cardiff) then he isn't driving round anymore, wrote the car off by driving it into a water-filled ditch :o

I think his excuse was another mystery car that caused the accident but failed to stop. Funny that! :p
